Bill, the amount of 2mm depends on the span. If you built a 1300mm span, then you should get 6 halves if you nestle them carefully. It also depends on the size of the sheet in your country. Ours is about 1250X2500mm. It helps to take your wing pattern to the place where you are going to buy the sheet. Do this because you dont want to kink or bend the sheet. So ask the supplier if you can lay the sheet out on his shop floor, template and cut it up right there. This will make it esier to transport.

The 3mm for the fuzz, tailfeathers and ailerons is never a problem. One sheet will be enouigh for all the guys to share! ....and still have lots left over.

A piece of 3mm ply about 400mm square is enough for one planes formers. You can see this in the one pic. For the spar. Well here you just have to get a "yard stick". We dont have them here, but you know what is required...... about 35X700mm.

Notice.

Appologies to all the followers of this thread. I am going to run out of broadband soon, and thus be off-line. I am trying to sort out the problem.

In the mean time.
Since we are not using power, we dont cut out the scollop for the engine. Give a light sand on the guide lines. This will help bond the glue to the correx, since it has a release agent in its compound. You may chose the glueing that suits you. I use a glue gun, hot glue. This gives me the ability to place the formers and move them, if need be, as the glue cools. As you know, contact does not allow you to "tweek" a former.

OK!...since I now have 9 days left. This is where we are now. Glued in the fuzz formers. Nice and straight to each other and the fuzz. Tailfeathers glued on. Remember, this is correx, dont spend too much time trying to get it 100% straight. Just do your best, the rest leave to the trim button on the TX!!

Wing construction.

The wing has now been cut out. Spar glued on. I am busy cutting the ailerons to glue to bottom skin.

Like Rusty Nail I have reservations on the wing section (I had a bad experience with a Clark Y airfoiled PSS Hawk back in the 90s), but I love what you guys have achieved with your team build - the models look great! I might just have to float the team build idea in our club again...

Matty,
This section is the furthest you can get from a Clark-Y. You have no,....ok a little,....control over it. I will post a pic of the section before joining the two wing halves so you can see what it looks like. I am sure every half wing I have built is a little different. There is even under-camber, I think thats what you call it. It is not a flat bottom at all.

The team build worked well. The best part was when we seperated ways to do the color schems and then gather again. They look awesome in the sky. We didnt get close enough for a foto shoot.

Matty,
I just took this pic to show you that......ok......it starts as a Clark-Y look-a-like. Keeping the LE in the jigs corner, ie, flat on the board. Then once you close, glue, the TE and release the clamps. in pops out into ......well, i'll just show what I mean when I get there.

I decided to pop into the "temp" Slope Cafe for some quality control. I also did some "creative broadband persuasion"

Some spy pics

Hey MattyB
As Sean says...
Don't know what the wing section is that turns out...
But whatever, she flies beautifully!

She is very stable and no bad habits whatsoever.
They are the perfect plane to test conditions with, and can fly in a wide range of wind strengths!
They are also great for newby slope pilots as they can absorb a beating and keep on going!
(a patch or two has no effect on their flying ability)
