Skyburners Micro Yak R2 (added video)
Had trouble really determining which forum to post this.... but I think the types of readers of the F3P could appreciate this more than some of the other forums here at RCG.
I've developed and cut a micro Yak-5x style plane that attempts to combine 3D/pattern character into one. Since it is practically impossible to fully exploit both characteristics in the same plane, a fun micro/near micro plane for indoor use that can go mild to wild and feels like a larger plane is the result. Working on it! Weather hasn't cooperated lately and the next indoor wont be for a few weeks. Thanks for the feedback!

Managed to shove the sticks to a FB so I could video! Swapped the 18-11 2000kv with the GWS5030 out and put the 1306N 2200kv 9gr on it. Made quite a difference in performance. The 2000kv showed its inefficiency shortly into flight and had to use 90% throttle to break hover. The 2200kv on a 6030 did a great job at maintaining thrust and have head room left over for punch out, even after 5 minutes of flight time! Definitely recommend the 1306N for this weight class. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=8295 |

Azarr, thanks for the info. I'll give that combo a try. Tried two 18-11s on this plane, both <80gr and on the gws5030. Its great the first minute or so-then the power starts to sag and hucking it takes almost all the throttle. Thought it was my packs not keeping up with the demand but I put on the TP Pro Lites 250 and they still getting the same problems. I suspect it is the motor inefficiency. The bell gets warm, not hot. The 1306 gives a great 6 minute flight and still had headroom on the throttle at the end.
I'll try your prop settings soon. Thanks! |

Now with an 80's twist!
I just finished a second Yak. Similar configuration as before but this time 3.5gr servos and the Orange RX 4ch receiver. I wanted to use what I had available in spare parts and wanted to experiment with the weight and setup. I also eliminated the center spar and used 1mm CF flat on the leading edge, which seems to produce similar strength and stiffness. Also, a carbon truss (.035) along the spine to try and stiffen the tail, which was twisty when snapped or rolled at speed. Overall, this put the weight up a bit to 82.4gr with battery.
@mnovotny: PMd @bighead93: Thanks! |
