T-34 won't fly

Just took out my stock Eflite T-34 mentor for the first time. Calm evening on a grass field. Stock, fully charged batteries (3S 3200mah 15/20C eflite.) The plane doesn't have enough power to take off. It taxis well at full throttle but can't fly. The field is mowed quite low, but it was wet. My Nexstar Mini will fly off this field. I'm new at this, so am using the droops and "beginner" flaps. The batteries are about a year old and haven't been flown but have been "exercised" and stored properly. They came up to full voltage in about a hour at 1 C. Seems normal. Most of the You-Tube videos show the plane on pavement but a few show great take-off's from grass. Using a DX6i and all checks out there with throws etc. Have not done any "tinkering" with the ESC.

Did you set your throttle range for your Tx in your ESC?

Have thought about the hand launch, but was by myself. I'm pretty sure the Tx and Esc are set for full throttle.

I've flown my students T-34 off the grass many times at our flying field. No problem. Don't use flaps!

Hand launching would be awkward and ill advised. The plane is extremely fragile in the front end.

Are the numbers/letters on your prop facing forward ?
Sounds like the prop may be on backwards......

The prop isn't backwards... if it was backwards it wouldn't taxi at all, if anything it would go backwards

It wouldn't fly backwards, it will still fly normally. I know from experience, my noob brother built his pz messerschidt with the prop backwards and it was a pig to fly. Sounded awful and had no power. Turned it around and it flew great!

Take a prop and look at it. Turning it over does NOT reverse the pitch of the blade. But it does make the airfoil backwards.

In the old days, we used to turn theprop backwards to reduce thrust for first flights to slow the plane down.

It should be easy enough to check it.

Need to check your ESC manual, but *usually* the process is simply:

With the model off, battery disconnected.
Move the throttle to full.
Connect the battery.
Wait for a set of beeps (should be different that the normal ready beeps)
Move the throttle to idle.
Wait for the normal "ready beeps"
Go fly.

If you don't get the ready beeps, pull the battery out before you move the throttle again or you could be inadvertently reprogramming the ESC.

Some observations and comments:

If the plane taxi's but won't take off, DON'T try a hand launch - certain crash!!

I know we all like to post helpful tips (well most of us), but if you think reversing a prop will make the plane go backwards........well, I'm not sure what to say next.

When setting the throttle range, prior to putting power to the rx, run your throttle trim all the way down. It rarely makes a difference, but it will with some esc's.

I know there are some out there who will cringe at this, but before I take a new plane out, I always do a static run-up holding the plane to confirm the power setup.

If everything is healthy, I would agree that most likely you have the wrong prop or it is on backwards. What prop are you using? And, a good suggestion above - the printing on the prop faces out.

Let us know what you find out.

Put a watt-meter on it and see what it's doing. Everything else is just guessing ....

I have had mine strapped to my Ultra stand with a fresh pack and it will pull itself and the stand across the garage floor NO PROBLEM. Something is off and a watt meter will point you in the right direction pretty quick.
