Looks like HobbyKing has incorporated the wedge on the planes they ship out now. Check out the middle photo at:

I don't have that piece of wood on the back of my wing.

Thanks for posting all the great videos and tips. I will try to check them out later on tonight. I like the wedge idea being mounted to the wing itself vice the fuse. It may help with the rubber bands sort of crushing the wing trailing edge.

Watched the videos, thanks for posting those. I have some questions perhaps someone could chime in about:
1. Any reports on raising the wing or a larger prop? Is it worth doing? What would using a larger prop do for FPV? RPM vs. vibration perhaps with spinning a smaller prop faster? My 10X5 APC seems to be one of 3 recommended props for the motor that was on the EPP FPV page. I have a little jello effect on my Go Pro video but not my FPV video. Odd that I have jello effect with all the foam for the vibration to travel through. I may add some servo tape around where the canopy mounts.

2. Odd how a larger stabilizer helps with the plane weather vane effect. Real planes with larger stabilizers seem to crab (weather vane) more. Just the opposite on what was reported on the You Tube video. How many out there have added the larger stabilizer? Worth it???

3. Anyone raised their wing? I guess the one in the video was raised to match the raised motor. Just wondering if it had any good or bad effects.

Thanks for all the latest tips on this plane. I will post my progress with the EPP FPV as well. I'm no expert but will put my 2 cents in.

Video from today

Here is my OSD image from my test flight today (3rd flight of this plane). Nothing fancy here folks. I was just testing out the EPP FPV and all the gear. Mainly a quick test to see if the wedge helped and trying to test out my Eagle Eyes live telemitry. I think I put on the goggles in later in this video...maybe it was the one after this. Can't remember. I may post my fist flgiht and you can tell the difference in the yawing of the plane without the wedge.

The temp you see is the ESC temp. Airspeed is on the left and this is actual airspeed (not GPS speed). GPS speed is marked GS for "ground speed" on the bottom left. The altitude ladder is baro altitude and the lower right ALT is GPS altitude.

Again, nothing fancy, not very clear video as it was recorded by a cheap DVR.

The more I look at this...the more I think this mod is only for the issue with the foam getting crushed by the rubber bands. It still would follow the same shape of the wing and not change the angle of incidence much. I think to have a wedge, it must be added to the bottom of the wing or where the trailing edge rests on the back of the wing saddle. I raised mine 6mm. Not saying this is a must but I was about to scrap this plane before giving it a try. Now I think it is worth continuing to fly and do more tests.

Hi guys,

I have decided to sell my Hobby King EPP FPV plane - brand new still in the box. I only opened the box to check out the parts, everything is still in its original packaging.

Photo from the Hobby King website...

Click here for details on the plane.

This is the plane the SPG uses to do his long range and very high altitude flights. A good platform, but I have the need for super speed, so have decided to part with the plane.

$75 pick up from the city in Sydney Australia (worth $82.99 from the Australian warehouse). Save yourself some postage!

SOLD PENDING PAYMENT

Please PM me if you are interested...

Now that's interesting ..... do you think HK owes the 'rcgroups thread guys' a couple of beers? ........

Mind you, it does look a bit thin compared to my wedge (9mm at the back edge - 3mm at the front)

Wow, 9mm. I just threw a 6mm square piece of depron over that plywood piece on the back of the fuse. I didn't tapper it at all. I guess I could. Seems to be pretty flush and it helped. Wonder if I need to go thicker. Did you try just 6mm before and thought 9mm was best or just went right for the 9?

Adding Stabilization

My Eagle Eyes Guardian Stabilization unit came in along with my antenna tracking system. The Guardian is sure tiny. I guess this is because unlike other systems, the GPS is not part of this unit and plugs into the OSD board separately.

I hope to try it tomorrow. It might be best to though. I only have a few short flights on the plane. Tweaking this early in the game might not be best.

I'll post pic of it in a bit. Darn phone won't allow it to upload on rcgroups.

Just wondering how many of you are using 900 mhz for video?

Just by chance I found a better way to recieve a much stronger video signal.

Up until now I would stick my 900 mhz receiver on a 7 foot poll. The signal
was pretty good. There is the odd spot in the field that would always
make the video fuzz. It also makes the video fuzz on the 2.4 ghz.

Last weekend I forgot the poll. I set my receiver on the ground in the grass.
The video was perfect, even over the bad spots in the field. Just wondering
that if any of you guys are getting video glitching, try the receiver on the
ground. I would be interested in your feed back. One of my buddies tried
his 2.4 ghz on the ground and did not seem to work as good. As I understand
it the ground reflects the signal back onto the antenna. I suspect that
the 2.4 ghz doesn't bounce off the ground.

I have also found my 900 receiver works better on the ground. My only problem with 900 is the CP antennas are SOOOO big!

I mounted my Go Pro as far forward as I could using the flat mount glued to the foam. On the easy star, I used the go pro as well but just used the mounting plate that came with the go pro. I glued some carbon rods to the underside to just rubber band on the plane.
