Ok, so here's a quick maiden. I don't have it wired yet for video but the camera and transmitter were mounted, just not running. Still need to run the wires.

Acft. flew great. Very easy to control and responsive. Carried the weight just fine. Should easily carry the GoPro with 2nd camera.

Most likely this is not the motor I'm going to use. May step it down a little cuz it has way too much power right now. Ill have to see what the consumption is on this one before I decide.

I would have thrown it around a little more but the canopy was just sitting there and I didn't want to loose it. Don't trust the magnets when you have weight on it. Definitely strap the canopy down. It wont stay under stress or negative G's. Canopy came off during landing.

Cruised well at idle

Motor = Uranias 35424 http://www.maxfordusa.com/u35425.aspx
60 watt. ESP
Batt. = 4000 3cell 40c (I cut some of some foam out of the front compartment to accommodate the large battery.)
10x7 SF prop. (With this motor, you can go bigger if needed. Most likely get better gas mileage ).

Note: 45-55mm cg is wrong. (I thought that was a little odd). I put it at the wing spar. Plane flew perfect at that location.

I'm going to be working on the on board camera wiring tonight. Should have it ready fpv tomorrow,Weather permitting.

Very happy with flight. So far, so good.

I have several quesitions:
why do you think that power setup you have is too powerful?

Did you Launch at full power?

what is your flight time with that 3s-4000mah with all FPV gear on....
I know it will depend on how much throttle you use but on average?

also, at what % of throttle do you use for just steady level cruising?

and it seems like it sinks pretty well afte the glide?

Ill know next time I fly. Haven't flown with ftp yet. Wiring up the FTP as we speak

"why do you think that power setup you have is too powerful". = Depends on how you look at it. You want the gas mileage or do you want power.

"Did you Launch at full power?" = No. about 1/2 to 3/4.

"what is your flight time with that 3s-4000mah with all FPV gear on...." = I'll Know more tomorrow or the next time I fly. This was the maiden.

"also, at what % of throttle do you use for just steady level cruising?" = about 1/4 throttle.

..........

Next flight will be with OSD/GPS so you'll be able to get most of your answers from that.

Im going to try to get out tomorrow with the flight camera. In the mean time stand-by

Oh to fly in zero snow or ice ..... and temperatures above freezing .....

I now have a more powerfull motor fitted so just need a break in the weather to check it out ..... the plane certainly needs a 400 to 600 Watts motor to give it adequate authority (IMHO) ......

Agree completely on C of G and Canopy magnets ..... I use the front spar location and regular wing bands to keep Canopy/camera gear safe .....

Looking forward to your FPV reports .....

Hobie,
the video up above (post #170),
how many Watts do you think his setup has?
does it fall close in the 600 Watts range?

here's the spec ......

Uranus 35425 Brushless Outrunner Motor $69.99

Spec:
voltage: 7-15V Current: 40~60A RPM/V: 1,100
Thrust: 74 oz (2.1Kg) Prop:11x5.5~13x6.5
Weight: 5.3 oz Shaft: 5mm

Comes with Radial mount and prop adapters.

I think it may well be around the 600 watts with the 10 x 7 prop ..... maybe Arley has the exact number? .....

(Rem the plane has a max prop dia of 10 inches)

maybe Arley can prop down a little, and use the same
motor, ....extends runtime and tames the plane a little?
....just a thought.....

......but I like how it flies like that, and WOT isn't neccessary
unless needed..... 1/4 throttle to cruise with all that weight seems
perfect to me :-)

Hi
I put the motor in Badcock's calc. Efficiency is not correct beacouse there was no info on IO and RM, so i guestimated.
But speed, power on the propp and Amp from the batt is close.

http://www.badcock.net/cgi-bin/power...ear=0&D_gear=0

With that motor you would need a 3blade 10x7 to get close to 600w.
My FLB mounted a 11x7 without a problem on his.

hey guys.....
how about this Scorpion Motor?

http://www.innov8tivedesigns.com/pro...roducts_id=519

looking at the specs, it can be used with 3s and 4s.

it may run more efficiently with 4s, but do you think it will
be way to heavy with GoProHD and FPV cam up front already?

Dr Evil,
so that video (post #170) is no where close to 600 Watts?
with your calculations, he was at ~385 Watts ?

Wow, if you are right, then it is not underpowered within' the 350-500 Watt range.

correct if wrong....I'm buying that Scorpion Motor up above,
and on 3s Lipo (40C) and 9x9e prop, I'm at 335 watts.....

and on 10x7e, its around 290 Watts.

I used the graph for the Scorpion.

http://www.innov8tivedesigns.com/pro...roducts_id=519

http://innov8tivedesigns.com/Scorpio...40%20Specs.htm

It would be nice if 11" prop works, but I have no way of telling????

It would raise up the power using a 3s Lipo.
(ie.... 11x7e and 11x8e )
