Youre having the same issue I had. DONT FLY that thing until you figure out what causing the peaks. You'll burn the motor up or the ESC. Heres what helped. The control srufaces (ie: ailerons, rudder, elevator) need to be cut off and hinged back on. the way they are attached from HK is too stiff. Upgrade from a 9 gram servo to a 12 gram servo. 9 gram servos struggle to move those huge ailerons and elevator when your in flight. Also, put a 60A ESC on that motor. 10x5 prop and I was good to go. I found this out after brning through my first motor. Fix that stuff and then check it again. And DEFINATELY DO NOT Go to a 4S. You'll burn that motor up real quick

Thanks JG but the motor isn't in the plane yet, Just a test stand no other electronics connected. Using thrust 70amp esc. So is there a problem? everyone seems to be using the 10x5 prop. Does it need to be a slow fly instead of E. the 10x5 APC copy that HK sells pulled 63 amps and 680 watts.

Prop choice
I might be on the wrong track here but I after using many 10 and 9 inch props I settled on one that only peaks at 30A.
This is because i divided the thrust into amps to compare props. For example if my motor drew 30A @ 1000g of thrust, that would be 3A per 100g thrust rating. The next tested would would give me 58A @ 1700g which is 3.4A per 100g. So using the example above, which is more or less what I observed when testing, if I know I can maintain altitude at 7A, that means I'm needing 233g of thrust to stay in the air at 3A per 100g. If you need more amps to produce the same 233g of thrust, then your flights are shorter. So sure, the second tested prop produced almost double the thrust, but was far more inefficient at doing the job. This is why I'm running a 9x4.5SF as it gave me the best efficiency rating for my motor. I'm looking for duration in the air, not raw power. The problem is that these are all static ratings and at full power too. The figures would be different if compared at 50% throttle and with the prop unloading at 40kph.Thoughts? |

Why is the 10x5 E prop drawing so much. Will it unload in the air? A lot of people are using this combo turnigy3536 w/10x5 prop. What are your figures? A slow fly prop bends so easy 4lbs of thrust seems like it would warp the prop into a semi circle. Remember it's the 1400kv model

i have the HK 3536 1400kv motor with 10 x 4.7 sf prop with good results.

As a followup I've found my tail is slightly angled differently that the wings/fuselage.
I've glued the tail wooden mounts using CA onto the boom. Evidently I was quite thorough with the glueing too. Any way to dissolve the cured glue? chipping away at the edges still does not remove the glue i cant reach between the inner mount and the boom. UPDATE:I chipped away at the glue, and then used the vice grips to slightly bend the wood and crack the bond. its now ready for the proper angle. and just to confirm... i should be shimming the motor mount closer to the boom to adjust for the diving problems I had under power? |

My EPP FPV Setup with Improvements!
Just wanted to share with you my EPP FPV - I have been flying it for quite a while now and made some improvements that really help a lot.
Enlarging the vertical stabilizer helps immensely - This modification is a must - It makes the aircraft track much straighter, with very little slippage - I also added a little dihedral to the wingtips - This also improves the flight characteristics greatly, making it more stable overall!
