Too much of a landing flare broke off the rear motor mount so I reverted back to the twin motor configuration. Less thrust but it flew pretty good:

Two great flights this afternoon with the Tri-Motor Skyfun. Finally figured out how this thing likes to land. I brought it in low and fast but didn't flare much, just let it get close to the ground and what felt like "ground effect" This prevented the rear prop from hitting the ground and resulted in a smooth landing, not too fast and not much of a roll-out. The key is not dropping in and then flaring. This plane is too heavy for that.

Also, there is nothing quite like a rolling takeoff with 6 lbs 4 oz of thrust on a 2 lb 12 oz Skyfun. Just rockets into the air, 90 degrees vertical and out of sight, actually accelerating as it climbs and rock solid stable.

I know this isn't the ideal configuration for the Skyfun, w/3 motors & 3 ESCs it's complex and getting a bit heavy but for fun factor it is pretty amazing.

Tomorrow, vertical launch from the ground

It is fun! I have to figure out the vertical launch technique though. Almost lost it today. Looking at the video it seems that the rear prop is pushing the Skyfun forward at launch. I'll need to offset that somehow. Either with the motor mount or elevator at launch. Doesn't do that with just the two motor/props on the wing pulling. Then it goes up like a helicopter.

I am a newbie to the skyfun- I have been flying slowsticks, easystars, radians, tower hobbies Mustang ,and a super skysurfer. The Skyfun is the fastest plane I have ever flown.. before today my fastest plane was athe tower hobbies mustang and it wasn't very fast -maybe 50mph? but today we replaced the stock motor and esc from the skyfun and installed a castle creations thunderbird 36a esc and a 2800kv microdan motor-----MAN OH MAN - vertical and accelerates til a mere dot in the sky- like flying an estes rocket.. it was very windy and 32 degrees so we only flew once- I can't wait to fly this on a calm day and see what she does- my buddy has a radar gun and we will definately get a few speed passes---

I really enjoyed the 3 minute test flight today- my friend was giggling like a school girl..
