Kinetic DP 130 Maiden Video 403mph!!

......................

K130DPMaiden.mov (5 min 35 sec)

Spencer casually flys his latest creation to 403mph in the fastest maiden flight ever. This plane is something else to see in person but I tried to make this video the next best thing to being there. Ill post the original HD version on RCSpeeds.com later for those of you who want to see it in High resolution. Until then click on the YouTube logo in the lower right corner of the video if you want to watch it in high Res. Then click on the small 360 and change the resolution to at least 760 , 1080 if you have a decent computer. If you have a slow computer click pause and wait for it to load then press play after half or more has loaded.

Nice vid.

For whatever it's worth, it was blowing considerably more than 20-30mph. It
was down from the 60+ he had during the world record on the K100 but
it was still in the 40's.

My version of the same flight is rendering on YouTube right now, and I'll post it up here
in the morning. It has a bit different feel to it, both video and audio. I'm using
the COMP1 AGC setting on the Zoom H2 which tends to pick up sound further away.

Thanks Ian

That's what I thought too... Jason and Spencer both told me that the wind speeds were really low for this filight. I do think there was some higher gust as you say. In fact the flight before, Jason's Thundertaker flight, I stood there on the hill and measured speeds down into the teens. The wind dropped off so fast but there were still some gust. I even have those low measurements on video I'll try and post them when I render the Thundertaker Video.

So far I pretty much just press record. I'll have to read the directions soon. My sound isn't nearly as good as yours but it's so much better than the normal sound. Thanks for introducing me to the H2 perhaps I'll learn to use it better soon,,, lol

Nice job Chris! Thanks for all the effort to produce the video. I like the part when the camera is still! It makes it easier to see the plane! Is that a wide angle lens or just regular? Works well whatever it is.

Thanks!
Spencer

Here's my version of the same flight. First part (up to just beyond where he went 403)
I shot with the camera on my head and the last part was hand held. Seems on
the head is much more stable, and tracks better (no real surprise). Notice difference in
sound between default setting and COMP1.

I noticed at 5:23 and 6:58 or so there are a couple of low passes that are just incredible. Nice flying, nice plane, nice vid. Can't wait to see what it can do when the winds are *really* up.

Yep there's some rockin low passes. The 403mph pass itself was very low. Might be a fun
one to try to do a video analysis of to see if the speed can be matched.

It's worth noting that at these speeds (this and the WR run) that it's really
critical to get the plane pointed at the radar guns. If it wasn't coming straight
at a gun, not only were the speeds low, most were completely missed. It generally
means you've either gotta scrape the ground on exit like Spencer does, or
angle your whole circuit such that entry is higher and exit is lower and
try to point the plane at a radar gun halfway down the hill during the middle
of the bottom turn (which is angled down). The angled circuit doesn't need to
come as close to the ground, but it is point *at* the ground for a while.
