We have some Vela sailboats up in Washington State, might be good to start a west coast division and have some events in the Pacific NW area later. These could be open to all N.W vela owners and clubs. What do you think?

Why restrict it to Velas? Any commercially available kit boat of up to 1 metre is likely to increase the inital interest. Later you can perhaps be more selective or handicap any design that proves to be ultra-competitive.

There are a lot of US 1 Meter boats in the N.W. The Vela is a 1 meter International with more sail area and is a couple of inches longer. I would agree with you and not restrict any boats, however I would also like to see a Vela modifided class. There are a lot of possibilities in this area. What we need is a couple of people to talk about the details and establish some basic rules. ronnied

So a Vela class would be cool with me.. but why limit it? Due to the size difference / sail area?

Just a quick vid of my VELA, maiden all stock trip. We hap some very strange winds on the lake, running over my shoulder on the dock but left to right in open water.

A side note on the second run knot on winch came off, very long return wait!! LOL

Yes, I think it is a great model too, I like the way it sails and looks and the hull is fiberglass.

But after, hearing that the Vela is like a Seawind, I just bought a Seawind to try.

Hi guys, these are pics of the completely revamped Vela I purchased in New Zealand several months ago. it is a very good yacht, nicely finished but very light hence a lot of work to get it up to race performance. I did a complete makeover inside and out. Decided to build ITA-45 because the lines very closely resemble the 12m luna rossa that was built when they were the challenger and NZ defended. I did'nt use the original servo sail arm system, was'nt enough torque to work the new sails I made. Replaced everything with 316 stainless.

..YES Silverfern...your Vela is in a class by itself!!!...looks beautiful and i bet it's fast....we'll be underway soon in Oregon with the Cascades Model Yacht Club
