Hey guys

Anyone used, seen or know of a Windrider Fox being used as an FPV platform?

My bro has one for slope soaring and its a cracking little plane... and you can strap a leccy motor to the front easily enough.

I ask because I've found a place that has them on sale at £35 and after my homebrew fpv platform failed miserably at the weekend I need a replacement sharpish.

No doubt it would work but it does not look like a inherintly stable platform.
I like my fpv planes to fly easily 'hands off stick',
I think the flat wing and short fuz could make it hard work... maybe.
Just my thoughts.

Its pretty stable, I've had plenty of stick time on it...

but then coming from a freestyle and extreme aerobatics back ground where the plane is very twitchy and pretty much stalled on the prop most of the time all gliders feel stable.

I'm more thinking about whether it'll comfortably take the extra weight of leccy power, 3s 2200 lipo and say 150g of fpv gear up front.... the short tail certainly doesnt help it in this respect.

Tape another 250g to it and see how it flies.
Fast, I expect.
But no, I recon just go for it !
It will at least be a fun learning experience.

Few planes are as stable as an aerobatic plane

Maybe cncoz is refering to auto stabilization capabilities more than stability, because aerobatic planes are always pretty stables, if you don´t touch the sticks they will keep the attitude. I don´t think auto stabilization is necessary, maybe to start flying fpv until you get used to, but planes with this behaviour are always boring

I´ve always loved the Fox, if you don´t bother if you have to modify it to put a motor it will be a nice fpv plane I think. But I see two problems, weight and CG, keep it light, with 20dm2 of wingarea any weight will increase the wingloading quite a bit. And as you said, the short tail will not help to put a motor, I´d build a motor pod to install it over the wings, it´s the best option to keep the CG where it should be

ahhh self stability... I agree I'd bore quickly of that, I like to be flying my planes all the time.

Looks like we're not going to see a Fox FPV conversation, I just went to buy it but all stock had gone with the price back to normal.

I'm not that bothered about having a Fox for FPV, it was purely that it was up for grabs at 35 nickers that got my interest.

I think you misunderstood I meant the model shop was taking the P.ss not you! Although Dude is an American term how'd you pick that up partner being from Cornwall?

All the Windrider planes on that suppliers site had their prices slashed for the weekend... the foxes stock went from green to red in two days, I guess it sold well at half price

They sell a plane exactly like that Windrider in the US under the make 'ST Models' as a Fox. I own one, it's a EP RR version I bought for $109USD shipped. If you look around you should be able to find a number of variations of that plane with different names and prices around the world.

heres a vid of my ST Models Fox in FPV flight. I can attest to its ability of carrying the extra weight. Also using a 2200mah 3s, it was a bit tail heavy when i had a smaller batt up front

Dmastax1x, do you have any pics of your fox setup by chance? I've seen one fox setup for FPV but would like to see every idea I can before I do mine.
