PCA-2 build Dave's turn!

Hey guys! I am finally starting my PCA-2 thread. I am at a stopping point as I need wood for the bottom of the fuse and hard wood for various things.

I started with the fuselage first. To get started, I stripped out a lot of 1/4" x 1/4" strips for the main frame and supports.

Dave,
Do you mind me stepping in on your build thread with my build or shall I start my own? I have made my first fuselage side..I may have a few questions along the way with a few issues.

Regards Rich

Dave,
Your build is looking very good so far. Isn't it nice to be working with a lazer cut kit? Keep up the good work.

Thanks Pete! Kind of weird actually holding the frame in my hand as the CAD is still fresh in my mind. Yes....the laser kit makes building a breeze.

Rich....what issues are you having?

Dave,
Its ok ..I just didn't look close enough at the plans but your photos have confirmed that I have done it the correct way.
Where the bottom 1/4 square strip runs from the front to back there is a dotted line were it runs through the wing cut out. When I looked at the cut out out in the wing seat it became clear. I also couldn't quite grasp the very front upright thinking, is the bulk head only glued to a 1/4 square strip but I can now see where the strength is.

I think I was just having a 'thick' moment

No worries man. The next former will have the notches in it and that will be glued next to the radius pcs. Before I do the formers and stringers....I need to make my servo tray and balsa bars between some of the upright sticks to anchor the push rods and sheaths. I want all the inside work done so I am not breaking things with my heavy mits. A quote from my wife years ago "Of all the hobbies you could spend time with, why did you choose one that is made of balsa wood?" LOL she has seen me struggle with small models in the past. I like 60 size models so I can get my hands inside the fuselage. And.....bigger flies better as we all know.

Dave....that is looking great! It pieces right along with the short kit, doesn't it. Wait till you get to the wing....with all those ribs pre-cut it's like a sig kit! Just snap them in place and CA the rest! Your nose rings look good. Which radial engine are you going to use?

Keep up the good work! It's a fun build!

It must be getting cold out....everyone is building again! Rich, waiting for yours!

PCA-2 Dummy Radial

Dave,
I'm using the second one that Joe is showing. Great Planes uses this one on there Stearman. It's also quite cheap.

Looking good Dave

Unfortunately I am unable to get those dummy radials over here..but if I sent someone the money to cover all of the costs would one of you guys order one for me? Get it sent to you then send it on to me?As Im sure they wouldn't mark it as a gift, this would make it expensive for me as I would have to pay the customs

I shall build my second fuselage side this evening, I like to use wood glue on my bigger models that have a vibrating 4 stroke attached. But it dries over night
