First giant scale plane. What to get

I am looking to get my first giant scale plane for a winters project but what is a good first giant scale plane ? I want a kit not an ARF the entire point of the project is to give me something relaxing to work on this winter. I am not really into 3d flying so no yaks etc. I have looked at the stuff balsausa sells and the 1/4 scale cub and sopwith pup both look pretty cool. Price wise I would like to keep the total cost of the project in the 2,000 range. Anybody have any ideas they want to shoot my way ?

Hance, how about the Sig 1/3 scale Spacewalker. A real fun plane to build and fly. Power it with a Zenoah G-38, Quadra 42, etc.. If you like the cubs they also have the 1/4 scale full wing and clipped wing version. The spacewalker and cubs was some of my first giant scale years ago.

I like the spacewalker idea. It's something you don't see everyday and everybody has a cub.

The Sig and BUSA scale kits are great kits if you have building experience. If not you might want to consider a Sig Four Star 120 kit. It will build fast and easy. Also you might want to look into building a Mud Duck. http://www.mudduckaviation.com/ Not a traditional build, or plane but it's not a Yak or a Cub

If you have a favorite plane and can't find a kit you could buy plans and cut your own or use one of the excellent kit cutters that will laser cut the kit for you. Opens up a lot more choices and can satisfy your personal taste in planes as well.

Take a look at Air Flair. http://www.airflair.com/flaircat1.html#PC-300

These kits are not often seen. They build well, and fly well, too.

I've built and flown, the Prime Stik, PC 300 and Prime Sport. Love them all !!!

I like BUSA's 1/3 Scale Eurocoupe... it's on my list.

I also saw Eureka Aircraft Co. making a kit for a 1/3 scale Piper Cherokee as well... I'd love to build a big cherokee one day, my dad used to have a full scale one and it was a great plane.
