The other thing to do is get a flight simulator. That will help with what we call "dumb thumb" syndrome. In other words, it will train your thumbs how to fly. FMS is a free one and will work fine for learning. There are several quads that you can download and practice with. Also crashes aren't as expensive.

I can see a lot of us will go the FPV way once they have their X650s flying effortlessly. Getting one SIM like AeroSim-RC will be of immense value to avoid the crashes. I learnt it the hard way ( not very hard b'coz I was very carefull having a good track of tens of crashes in heli flying . This SIM has got FPV options with few quads.

I haven't even got a GoPro myself
My GopPro is on it's way back to California where it was born as it broke

I've been trying to adapt one of the four I have to mount my compact camera, not sure how that's going to work out though

Just a warning on the Jakub or any other stabilised cam mounts
The XAicraft software doesn't work properly, you can stabilise the mount but the end points for the servos (min and max) don't do anything, this means that if your quad tilts at an extreme angle (or lands upside down) the servos will continue to try and move even if they've reached their physical limits and the frame is up against itself
This has apparently been addressed in the upcoming release of 1.32 firmware

Well that was interesting. The x8 is completely capable of loosing a motor mid flight. I went to shoot some tests, one motor twitched and wouldn't start. After prodding and poking it came back to life. Did some test shots. On the last flight, just to add insult to injury, I lost orientation when the x8 got silhouetted at about 70'. I took a deep breath. and just reduced the throttle, having faith that it can take care of it's self. On the way down, the troubled motor quit, the x8 dipped and recovered in under a second. Then it kicked back in, and quit again. really didn't increase the decent rate, or freak out at all. This was all up weight around 3.6 kilos with a t2i with a 16mm lens on board.

Any body know who has motors in stock in the US? CNC heli is out.

Hi! Our X650 is still at the border waiting for our next trip up...and I really need to get on the ball with the flight sim practice.

I have the free FMS program. Does anyone have or know where I can get a Quadcopter download?

Are there different models? Or do all quads fly basically the same?

That was really good, you're flying it very well I think. It seems like a nice flying spot too, with a bit of shielding from the wind around it.

I had my first go at filming a particular subject today, in this case an old building we found by a country road during a sunny spell between the rain.

Speaking of wiring. I'm working on a hexa that isn't centered on it's frame, i.e. the arms are of different lengths...shortest up front, longest in the rear. I'll be using my X450 motors and escs (yes, I know this is the X650 thread), however, more multi-folks on this thread. As is, my esc battery leads aren't long enough to connect to a central power connection. I read somewhere it's better to have the esc power leads all the same length.

The question:
How critical is similar power lead lengths for the ESCs...or is it better to extend the motor leads and leave the power leads as is? If I do longer motor leads I'll just removed the current ones (on the esc side) and install longer ones directly to the esc. If I did longer power leads I'd just make the the battery pigtail with some long and some short extensions to reach the respective esc connections.

Also, what about FC and AHRS placement. I going to assume the best place for the AHRS is on the central balance point for the frame. I'd likely just keep the XA stack together vs spacing out across the frame. I attached a picture of the frame to help understand what I'm trying to explain. Inputs?
