Metal = bad

It will create loss due to multipath interference. That is why most antenna trackers are made from wood. You can use wood, plastic, or any other non-conductive material. That doesn't mean metal won't work. It just means that you need to get the antenna away from it for optimal performance.

Im just about to start building one also. So far I have the tripod but thats about it. Still trying to figure out the design for the ply. Im planning on using some standard birch ply, 1/4". I have a Yagi but I think it may be difficult to counterbalance for the servo to easily turn so I may end up getting a patch to replace it.

That Im not sure? Although I did get my HAM license for FPV I dont know much about wave interference or how that could affect the feed elements. If it wouldnt that would be a good simple way to mount.

Also I have two, one vertical and one horizontal although I dont know if its possible to use both along with the omni through the EAgle Eyes diversity.
