How would this motor do on a stock turbax?

The problem is that it wouldn't fit in a Turbax. The center body on the fan is too small. If you could buy the adapter that Scorpion sells and put a longer shaft in the motor it might work. But the long unsupported 6mm shaft might not be strong enough. The Scorpion 4035 used for the Turbax uses an 8mm shaft.

I was afraid of that. I am not too crazy about that looonngg unsupported shaft. Looks like I will be getting a Haoye fan. Should go great in a JHH A-4.

Isn't the Turbax rotor 5mm and the Turnigy motor 6mm. I've never seen the details of the turbax rotor but are you just drilling out the adapter, or is there a simple fix?

The adapter that comes with the Haoye fan is for a 6mm shaft so that works perfectly with the Turnigy 4030.

The hole in the Turbax rotor is slightly larger than the shaft of the adapter so it's nessesary to use a shim on the shaft to keep the rotor centered.

I used two layers of heatshrink tubing as the shim and it worked great.

that`s an old trick from my IC days. Sometimes we would also use fuel tubing over the shaft to make a shim, that works well too if you have the right size of tubing. But the heat shrink worked very well and can be fine tuned. I didn`t try it yet, but soaking the heat shrink with a little thin ca glue maight be good too.

ps...with 880 kv, you should be right about 5 kw with the turbax rotor. should get ya about 15 lbs of thrust, and 200+ eflux noooo problem..

I`ll measure the FSA for ya Brent and let you know.

On the Turbax rotor numbers.. 5kw may be pushing the motor a bit past it`s best spot for efficiency, but I`ve had mine up to 4.5kw and the windings aren`t changing color yet

I`ll have a new rotor next week and will give it some good tests. 11s may be better for long term use, but for $32 what the heck.

I`m working on mounting the 4.5" to my Falcon and plan to fly it next weekend at a local electric event....will follow with video.

With my twin 90mm on the Falcon it weighed over 17lbs. With this set up it will be close to 13lbs, so it should be a blast to fly if I can get 13+ thrust and over 200 efflux, it will also land like a pussy cat at that weight.

When I do burn one of these motors up I will rewind it and adjust the KV as needed....maybe slightly lower for 12 use.

yeah, id say 850 would be optimum for 12s. 880 might be a scosh hot, would be killer in a 4" fan....hmm......

you might be right about 11s. we'll see i guess. i know that the full turbax is about 5 kw on 5000 12s with the 1527 1.5Y, and thats around 830 kv....or maybe it was 840 somethin. id have to double check.

Of course that`s a full size rotor. With it cut down, 12 s might be perfect.
