I charged up my best 5ah cells today and did a run to measure rpm and efflux speed. It was holding at about 115a on 10s. The rpm measured 25.5k and the efflux was just a shade above 165 mph. The rpm were measured with an optical tach and the efflux was checked with the newest style of airspeed unit from ET used in stand alone mode much like a HowFast.

I estimate about 3.55v per cell. That would give about 4.1kw.

With the Turbax rotor I should be able to go 12s with amps in the 110 to120 range. The rpms and efflux will be higher and the power should hit in the 4.5 to 4.7kw range.

This is going on my Falcon 120 wing for some real world testing. The AUW will be about 14lbs so if the motor dies I'll have plenty of glide to bring it home.

I also checked the thrust again and saw 13.6 lbs.

Note: Remember all of these actual numbers are with the stock Haoye rotor.
Fan and motor cost $60. The weight of the unit is 1.3lbs. Pretty
amazing in my opinion.

Always good to see people pushing ideas.
Very good figures (and price) as well

Lee, if you don't mind me asking, what brand packs were you using?
Not trying to bring anything down, but some of the newer technology packs might see an even higher voltage under load, thus even higher amp/thrust figures?

No prob Vic. These are XPS 30c cells that are over a year old and haven't been treated very nicely. I can't run that many amps thru my ET unit so that's why I don't have an exact reading for the voltage.

Are you waiting for the tubmax rotor to cut down. I'm very interested in your project. How are you going to trim the rotor down?

Yep, that was in you Turbax thread, where those details are. I moved into a house in May and somehow lost my cut down Turbax rotor, but it was such a nice match for the Haoye shroud that I've been wanting to try an outrunner with it.

I thought this motor might be something to try, but I never expected it to be able to do this. It's very tight and well ballanced. It starts up very smoothly. I'm running it with the Turnigy 120a HV and it just sings at 25k rpm.

I'll admit I'm a sucker for cheap, but the cheap stuff is getting better all of the time. I'm very fired up about this combo. 13.5 lbs of thrust for less than $200 including the esc. Incredible!!!

So, no I haven't run he Turbax rotor yet. But I know basicly how well it performs compared to the Haoye from those earlier tests.

I'll detail it for you when I do it. It's just a matter of taking an equal
amount off of each blade, the I use sand paper inside the shroud to fine tune everything. Then the rotor has to be static ballanced again.

I think I know who makes the motor, and their quality is good

I think the question is, how many watts can the motor handle. It seems to be ok at the 4kw level. With this rotor 12s would go too far I think. But with the Turbax rotor, my educated guess is that it will work. I'll have a new rotor within a week and then we'll find out for sure.
