Turnigy 4030-880 Outrunner/ Haoye 4.5" / Turbax rotor...15+ lbs Thrust for about $200

It's been too quiet around here so I thought I'd stir things up a bit.

This is the real deal, not a joke, but I'm not giving up the details just yet.

If someone can guess the combo, I'll come clean with pics and vid. Otherwise you'll have to wait for me to do a little more testing. Also I want to pick up some more of the parts before they all sell out.

I might be shamed into giving some hints if you know where the chinks are in my armor.

Have fun. Lee

List of videos.........

All videos are with the Turnigy 4030-880 and the Turnigy 120hv esc

Post #143 The stock Haoye fan and rotor on 10s

Post #560 Repeat of the previous video

Post #566 The Turbax rotor on 11s (temps about 45F so lipos cold)

Post #616 Turbax rotor on 12s (temp 58 F....so lipo performance was better)
The second pass was Dopplered at 165mph - tailwind = 160 airspeed

PARTS LIST

Fan Assy http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=4242

Motor http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=11143

The shaft adapter.... I use the Great Planes 6mm adapter, don`t have a link, but their part number is GPMQ4968

The rotor and spinner for the 120mm Metal EDF can be used instead of the original parts listed. These will save you $25 if you go with the least expensive shipping option.

Is this a combo you put together, or one that comes pre installed?

Steve, it`s something that I put together from readily available parts.

Hint: the dia of the rotor has to be reduced a little from stock and the motor support flange of the shroud needs some simple reinforcement.

It's gotta be outrunner driven, right? Maybe a Scorpion motor?

yes

no

A Scorpion capable of 4kw+ would put you way over budget.

Remember......the cost of housing + rotor + motor = right at $100 not counting shipping.

You use cheap-china motor???

Despite what Confucius say, it no last you long time...

But I'm willing to throw out a guess for the Haoye shroud and/or Rotor.

OK guys, the guts go into a 4.5" Haoye shroud.

Of course it`s a Chinese motor, but I`m telling ya. This thing is smooth and has some guts. I`ve held it at over 100a for 60 sec blasts and yes it warms up, but the windings still look like new. This is a sweet motor. I have 5 Scorpions in smaller sizes and IMHO this unit is every bit as good as a Scorpion. Yep, that`s what I said.

Also the cool thing about the outrunner is that the bearings are easy to replace and I can rewind it if it burns and can make it even better. Of course the kv can be fine tuned also.

Ok

It`s the Haoye 4.5" shroud

The rotor will be a Turbax cut down to fit (I lost my first one while moving) using the Haoye right now

The motor is a Turnigy (red) Heli motor. Size 4030, kv is 880, 6mm shaft

Right now I`m running it on 10s to keep the amps down to 110. With the Turbax rotor, I`ll be able to go 12s and the amps will stay in the area of 110.

I took a video of a 30sec run at over 100amps. I`m putting it on you tube. I`ll post a link when it`s ready.

bench run vid

here`s a bench run of 30s over 100a

pretty impressive I think

this was on 10s but the cells were not fully charged

the white plastic shroud was just to hide the color of the motor
