I found a photo of a DH Vampire with a very long wing,
maybe a photo recce. version.
Does anybody know anything about this, or where 3 views might exist?
Apparently the full scale Vampire had a flat glide

Thought I knew my aviation but never heard of that one - interesting. Post a copy / scan of the pic you've found?

Hmmmmmm..... that would be rather interrseting no.

Hmm just wondering if that was the prototype photo for the Venom before the final wing configuration was set ? as there are no markings on the aircraft it fits the roll out stage of development, the vampire had a span of 30 foot where as the Venom was 41 foot.

I think Steve is right, the canopy is just like the Venom rather than the Vampire.

The photo of the news print plane seem's to have a narrower canopy different fin and rudder layout and the wing's still seem longer than the Venom's.

Don't forget, DH had a Canadian operation, may have been a test vehicle over there.

The wing shape is definately Vampire, Venom has a straighter T/E, looks like an FB5 canopy.

The Venom prototype was based on Vampire parts hence the statements before the final wing plan form was settled, proof of concept needed to be concluded before tooling changes are made to existing equipment. Standard operating practice especially for De Havilland mainly England and Hawker de Havilland Australia EG HdH Bankstown Airport sadly Sold to Boeing now Boeing Aero structures Australia and about to be close down
a personal gripe for me as an ex employee and the fact that it ends nearly 90 years of aviation history there including the Vampires

Interesting, I have a PSS Vampire in the works. If I could get the low down on this it would an interesting variation. There were 250 Vampires built in France as the Sud-Est SE-535 Mistral, so it could have been them having a play around with a recon version.

But it is probably one of the Venom prototypes like TG278 below as Steve mentions. The wings were extended to cope with the larger de Havilland H.2 Ghost engine intended for the Venom.

Now that look's about right.

If I was to model 1 of them I'd probably do the Venom over the Vampire anyway as you already have standard the extra wing area , I'd also increase the vertical fins by 10% just to give a little more directional stability. Small tail area's were evident on all De Havilland designs .

Yeah that Greenair design is nice, if a bit on the small side. Pic of an electrified one below together with a PSS Venom.
