I just picked one of these up, looks really nice, great packaging if I do say so myself however, the blue paint needs a little touch up here and there. Has anyone found a close match to the blue color?

Also, when you screw the wings and elevator on, they give you 2 differant screws. One screw has about 1/8" threads at the tip, and is then smooth, the other screw is threaded all the way. Which set of screws goes where, I really didnt see it in the insctructions

Thanks for the help,
Mike

The complete threaded is for maing wing. And the machined screw is for elevators. If you put the all threaded in the elevator you will squeez down the elev wing.

Paint Match Question

What is a good paint match for the blue on the Yak, I have a few places that could use a little touch up.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

I used my kids water based paint set, the blue and red are almost perfect matches, not sure what brand it is, there's about 6 colors in a white clear plastic container that are connected together.

Finally got to take the yak out for a spin, the 13X5 vox prop has heaps of torque, not super fast on speed but a good 3d prop. I had a prop strike on landing and chunked a blade tip. Tried the apc 11X7 and it was fast but no torque. I'm gonna try the vox 12X7 next. I did notice the plane was pulling to the left on a hard vertical climb, I think I need to tilt the motor mount more to the right with all this power, might have to mix right rudder into throttle, not sure yet, need to fly it more and try different props.

Ya know, when I started this hobby I thought Id get more airtime, but Ive been holding out for better weather. The wind and rain is supposed to stop today, so Im hoping to get out this weekend. Ive been looking for a better field too. I see alot of places an experienced pilot could fly, but I need a BIG space, just in case . Waiting on things to come in the mail really does suck, glad you finally got your batteries. Ive been waiting on a simple blade holder on my heli for 3 weeks now! Anyway, have fun with the yak this weekend! Let me know what you think of her.

Mean Yak54 Sharks Teeth

Well my buddy and I found a couple of used CZ Yak54 locally for $300.00. What a bargain. I could not resist making mine a little different. All that blue on the nose begged for eyes and a mouth. I found a template on the internet, scaled it up and test fitted the image on the plane. Then used the paper print to cut out some Scotch vinyl white, red tape. Used sharpies for the outlines.

I have only flown her a couple times conservatively using the advance settings with my DX8 and I think this plane rocks. Enjoy.

I think the biggest lesson I have to learn is PATIENCE! Taking it up when I shouldnt is very hard. The first time up it was windy, but I couldnt wait. I nosed over on landing and broke the prop. I must have bent the shaft a tad because I took it up again today, too windy again (I havent learned yet), and 5 min into it it felt like I lost throttle. I thought battery died. I had my timer for 8 min. I was able to drift it down into the wind and managed no damage, but I then saw the motor mount where it attaches to the foam came loose, like the motor and prop was trying to fly loose from the plane! I can see there is a wobble in the prop shaft, but at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, it didnt seem like much vibration. I guess I was wrong! Can the shafts on these motors be replaced? Im just gonna gorilla glue it back in for now, unless you guys have some other thoughts???

The aluminium prop adaptor is much more likely to bend than the motor shaft on that motor. I would use epoxy on the motor mount hard points into the foam rather than GG.

Yes the motor shaft can be replaced. Indeed a bent motor shaft can cause vibration and destroy other things. much like an out of balance prop can. Sometimes it doesn't take much to bend one either. Usually I can tell by watching the prop tips spin at a lowish rpm. The tips won't be even. With the prop and adapter removed, spin the motor medium fast and feel of it or use a sharpie near the end of the shaft. The marker will only touch the high side. Useful for repairing it but the rpms it spins in this plane you better replace. If it's not bent, the sharpie will mark all the way around and it will feel smooth to the touch. Be careful! Horizon sells the shaft for this motor. I usually use generic ones from headsuprc.com.
