I have the xflight 1600kv combo. I'm thinking of using the new CC 90A talon and saving the 100A I have for some wing else. Xflight says 86A max but what is the real world amp draw?

On a fresh batt I've seen peak 102, mid 90s sustained with my GensAce 3700 35C. Again it's in the Freewing shroud so I'm not sure if that makes any material difference.

So it would seem maybe a hobby wing 150 or a CC 120 would be good then? I like to have some headroom on the esc if possible.

I think you'll be fine with a Hobbywing Platinum Pro 100. It's rated for 10 second bursts at 150. I mounted mine where it gets good airflow and I have no worries whatsoever. I get mine from falconsekido.com.

Just installed the xflight cs12 1600kv combo with a Turnigy K Force 100A ESC. Very little cutting of foam. The cs12 shroud is slightly longer than stock and has triangular side mounts (with one screw on each side) instead of flat ones (3 screws per side). Could be a 15-30 minute job at worst.

I could also epoxy the shroud to the fuselage but decide on something less permanent. I'm sure the single screw is fine but I tend to overdo everything

EDIT: other differences

Stock motor and fan - 334g
CS12 1600kv - 352g

Both use 4mm bullets. Unfortunately I put 3.5mm bullets on my ESC and temporarily used adapters. Will fix later.

Hi Everyone :=}
Got a stupid question, I don't see like I use too by no means .
I have been painting my Strykers and some others fluorescent orange on top and fluorescent yellow on bottom in order to see them at some distance .
Has anyone had trouble seeing this out say 4 to 500 yards away, as I do not really want to take the miltary look away from this nice looking jet.

My old eyes are struggling to see 30 inch jets at 1500 ft. I lost orientation, at least I was able to land/crash at a flat aditude. Flying in the last 5 minites of daylight got me again. No orange on my f-18. Just got to fly closer.

1500 feet distance is a very long ways off for a small plane like this. The only planes I fly that far away are my powered sailplanes because I know that they can be powered off and glide for a while. And those are accented with bright red tape. Even then, they can easily disappear if you take your eyes off it for even a second. An EDF like this is not what one would consider a good glider. 500 feet is already too far even though I can still see it.
A sailplane is flown far away because that's the nature of the philosophy of flying such aircraft. When I fly my scale jets, I want them close enough to see their details. I can't imagine flying them so far away that I can't even tell what it is, let alone taking away from the military look.

OK , just wanted to see how far most are flying this, and the distance I gave was just as a reference point.
I thank everyone for their input .

I do fly very high and far away :=}}

Hope to order my jet tonight or tomorrow if no other unexpected expenses pop up between now and then. Probably going to fly on the stock power at first then upgrade later! Looking forward to getting this jet back in the air as I have missed it bad.

I have what I consider excellent vision but I won't fly a jet too far away. At a certain point, you're going to have a hard time with orientation regardless of quality of vision. I always keep my planes within reasonable distance not just for orientation purposes but in case of emergency and I need to get her back to the runway in a hurry.

I have lasik corrected 20/20 and my squall is difficult to see. I never had any issues with my F-18 but I also flew the pattern a lot.

I quess I should fly closer but I find that with height and a little nose heavy .
That I have been able to glide even a flat piece of foam with a couple of stabs and elevons along ways.
I have had to set a few down out at some distance, but I have been lucky.
Also they did not cost the kind of money as the F-18 & all the cost of upgrades and expensive lipo packs cost.
So I will be flying allot closer :=}
