gator,

Tell your buddy to use dual rates when landing. Switch to low rates on the go around and come in with just a tad of throttle. Those low rates will help on those flares that are causing the plane to roller coaster in. I used to do the same when I 1st got that plane and dual rates helped as this plane thought me how to land an edf.

+1 Very good advice. It's easy to over control on landing and low rates really help with that.

A little power on landing helps to stay on course (rudder) and make a smooth transition through the ground effect with a slightly nose up attitude on touch down.

I've been thinking of adding a 2 axis yaw and pitch gyro just for certain landing conditions on my new plane. Sometimes, I have to land in some fairly busy wind situations; variable crosswinds and winds that seem to change direction from one end of the strip to the other, almost instantly, because of a wind "bowl" effect caused by the crosswinds. I think the gyro could help in these conditions. What do you guys think?

Never used a gyro but I'm sure if setup right it'll help keep her stable on those crosswind landings, plus it'll really help with those high alpha cobra, hovers, and other tv aerobatics.

I'm sure it will help with aerobatics too, but I'm feeling a little guilty about that, old fashioned pilot that had some trouble accepting computer radios, so I think, for the time being, I'll limit it to those difficult landing conditions.

Foam and I got comfortable a few years before I could sit in the same room with a computer radio.

Death of Amazing F18

yeap, flight 159 it went in. Sad it was in such good shape, so reliable. that is until you fly in 100 degree weather.....

f18 crash (11 min 32 sec)

i have a camra view from the bottom, ill upload it tonight.

Watch the dust rise in the air after crash. Video also shows search aircraft looking for the downed F18.

Wow, that's too bad.

High ambient temperatures sure don't help the electronics.

I never have a problem with the Deans overheating. The connectors are barely warm after a flight. I always use an external switching BEC with this kind of set up. But, I understand if you suffer a loss you can attribute to a connector why you'd never use them again.

100% stock.

it really flew well, and it hovers nicely. Best landing edf i have ever had. A F18 pilot came by the field a few weeks before and said it lands just like the real F18.

this model they got right. I hope they dont change a thing.

FYI i do not use epo or dual rates on this jet, its 100% all the way.

Ya love this jet, others don't like it but it's a perfect f18 that's a joy to fly all the time. I flip flop on taking out my euro and fa18 to the field. Wish I had room for em both in my truck.
No expo or d/r? You must have a really good/senstive thumb, your a great pilot so understandable.
