wattage cubby/pico cub im confuzzeld on picking one
ok im just chassing my tail here :P i need to find out what is better out of the wattage cubby and the gws pico cub as i am going to buy one on friday i know the wattage cubby has a twitchy rear end and the pico cannot handel winds and i have heard 50/50 good/bad storys about the wattage cubby and 100% good storys about the pico they are the same price but i cannot make up my mind the way i see it is that in a few weeks if i have brought the pico cub i will have to upgrade the motor that means $$$ BUT! i donno about the wattage cubby sinse i dont want it to "fall out of the sky" because a twitch but it has a good motor and maybe i can over come the twitch?
i need more info on this twitching thing does it throw the plane sideways or just makes it move a little bit? im so confuzzeld i have read the storys about the cubby from wattage but they dont explane how much of a twitch there is and say if both planes fall from 20-30 meters up what one will recover better as i am taking into account ill crash plenty of times ill be picking witch plane i buy from the replys thanks HAPPY FLYING GUYS dont forget to keep it in the air ;-) lol |

I say go with the GWS cub.
True, it don't like wind very much, but that has not stopped me from flying in 10-15 kp/h winds. It's very stable and scale looking, it's also very easy to fly. The stock motor will pull this bird around very nicely if it's a small battery, i have the pico cub fuse right now, but when i flew my old pico cub "stick" a while back, it was so powerfull that i could go vertical for 10 feet froma take-off, nice! i flew it on a 7 cell 300 nihm, my plane was close to an once over weight, but the preformance was still very powerfull. I now fly the pico cub fuse, this plane is smoother on the controls and looks great flying figur 8's only 5 feet up, it's not nearly a power full due to it's slightly higher AUW, and the fact that my batter pack is very old and gives out less that half of what it used to, but it still climbs very nicely, 10-15 min is avrage, pop in some 650 nihms and you get nearly half an hour! I highly recamend it, you won't be dissipointed. |

Unless you are a pretty experienced flyer, I would not recommend the Tubby Cubby. It will do things that you have to react to, and unless you are familiar with how to react, you will be in trouble. The GWS Cub is much more stable.
For an inexperienced flyer, neither plane should be flown in much wind. Once you are more experienced, the The GWS Cub can be upgraded with more power, to suit. With the short coupling of the Watt-Age Cubby, your reactions need to be quick. It does come with a bigger motor, but it also is heavier. Go with the GWS. |

I have owned a couple of GWS Cubs. They took a lot of mods to make fly decent, but once everything was done they are fun little models. Don't really know anything more about the Tubby Cubby but I will suggest the Wattage Mini-Max. Between my brother and I we have 3 of these. They fly great without any modification at all. My brother just put a new one in the air last week. He was tired of the ugly orange so he painted it up like a PT-19 or Stearman in blue and yellow with stars on the wings and red and white stripes across the rudder. REALLY SHARP and really added very little to the build time. It flies really well.
Hope this helps. Mike |

I like the GWS cub. Mine flew well even with no mods, and flies better now, plus it's practically immortal: you just can't kill it. Tape, glue, more tape......it just keeps going.

If you really want to fly in wind, don't get either plane. Either go for a wing like a Zagi or something that will penetrate the wind like a heavier geared speed400 plane.
The GWS Cub would be like throwing a feather into the wind and the Tubby Cubby sounds like a dog, wind or not. What about a Multiplex speed 400 Cub or something along those lines? |

I have the tubby cubby and am new to rc flying started with 2 meter gliders and moved on to a 3 channel electric. Hobby People had the tub for 28 bucks, so I bought 2, am on the second one now. I have essentally learned to fly on this. I have to agree with the others, it seems hard to fly. I've flown it about 20 times and crashed it about 4. Its easy to repair and replacement parts are cheap. In turns, it really wants to drop the nose so you have to give it up elevator throughout. Once trimmed, it will fly hands off, nice and level, but once one of those wings tucks under in a turn you better have some altitude or you'll be putting it back together. It also has a climb tendency when under full throttle which is great for take offs, it'll fly out of your hand with plenty of power, but keeps you pushin foward on the stick to keep it level. Ity flies with plenty of authority on the recommended 6 cell and has long durations. I usually get nervous after a couple minutes, bring it down, and then toss back up when my nerves come back. I also have a 7 cell. Man this little cub cruises with this one, only a .6oz weight penality which doesn't seem to change it flight behavior. People at the field tell me that these things are hard to fly and I don't know if they're right as I am pretty new to this, but it is challenging. Looking foward to moving on to an aileron ship. Good luck on your decision!

My poor little GWS cub has been alive now for almost two (!!) years. Almost impossible to kill. Who says it won't handle wind? I fly in 10 to 15 mph winds all the time. It does have a 280 in the nose instead of the IPS for a little more grunt and I fly it exclusively with 1600 mah Li-Ions. Great fun!!
