Getting closer to the original idea of this thread. Handles good in forward flight.

Thanks. It's a lot of fun. Like V22 said, time to put the back motor in it now.

Flight test start with new airframe... Arduino hardware gave me fits because it can read 8 channels, but then it does not output more than one channel.. very strange... Did a workaround with just 7ch...

This tri-copter uses the two 700 watt motors for yaw control and the 200 watt motor in the back is fixed.. The large motors are not using 700 watts with the 12x3.8 props.

Did a bit of hovering but needs more gain on all axis.

Lots of test flight just now... This one does not fly right... Can not hover very well...
yaw and pitch problems.. I think pitch motor is too small... ordered a new one...
Landing gear too small... Plane is to close to the ground, this is bad for slow takeoffs.
Just lots of little problems... more to come

Maybe you can cut the front motor power down a little or increase the rear or both.

Looks good. The idea of tilting the rear motor is interesting.

The plane lifts off vertically but is not very stable in the pitch axis... Also the rear motor is getting very hot... The rear motor is doing its job but is not very responceive to my inputs, as compaired to the last plane which had a far larger rear motor.

Like most the way most things are fixed these days.. I will just change parts untill it works !!!

Based on my experience with a quad design, I've tweaked the original design of this thread a little more. Nice big elevons, similar to the quad design, for high speed and especially low speed handling. They also negate the need for a front canard which helps keep the design simple. Just a single vertical stabilizer. This will keep the design light enough for standard retracts which I think will create less drag then the wheel pants idea.

Sounds like a good plan.

update... Plane flies better than the first one..

New rear motor did the trick.. Video to come..

Next step... Connect the ailerons, elev and nose steering, check balance and take off forward.. It’s a bit over powered… 500 watt x 2 on a light weight plane… I will take off in forward flight… Glide in for a landing, switch the motors vertically with them off and just land vertically. That’s the plan!!!!

wow...thats great. its nearing that climax point eddie. Thumbs up. Go on with transition. Hovering will require a little bit attention probably?

I can't speak for Eddie but I put mine down to work on the quad rotor. Thought it would go together quickly like FoamAndTape's did but since my motor tilting is gyro controlled it's much more sensitive to vibrations which the big rear wing with motors on the tips likes to create. Looks like I've got a solution for that though so we should be back on the tri soon.
