Comparison 3DHS EXTRA 300 SHP 47” and EF MXS-EXP 48” and PA EXTRA 260
I have been checking out my options for a small electric plane to use for practicing 3D and precision flying and was steered towards this size (bigger is better). So I started comparing options. I am sure there are other planes I have overlooked. Chime in if you have any suggestions. This is what I have so far.
3D Hobby Shop’s 47” Extra 300 SHP
Wing span: 47”
Wing area: 460
Flying Weight: 38 to 44 ounces
Wing loading: 11.89 - 13.77
Price: $278 plane and recommended power system, excluding batteries and servos.
Battery size: 3s 2200 to 2600
Extreme Flight RC’s MXS-EXP
Wing span: 48”
Wing area: 500
Flying Weight: 44 to 48 ounces
Wing loading: 12.67 to 13.82
Price: $300 plane and recommended power system, excluding batteries and servos.
Battery size: 4s 2350 to 2700
Precision Aerobatics Extra 260
Wing span: 48”
Wing area: 490
Flying Weight: 34 ounces
Wing loading: 9.99
Price: $340 plane and recommended power system, excluding batteries and servos.
Battery size: 3s 2200 20 to 40C
All have really talented pilots doing amazing things with these planes.
Prices not far apart. The highest being the PA Extra 260, which is loaded with carbon fiber parts. The mid point is the EF MXS, but this requires a 4 cell battery, which will up the end costs. Stand out for pricing is the 3DHS SHP.
Wing loading shows 2 very similar planes, the 3DHS and EF planes around 12 to 14. Stand out for wing loading is the PA Extra 260.
Fit and finish. Don’t know. Haven’t seen the products. All have good reputations for good products and support. The EF MXS and the PA Extra 260 have airfoil tails. The 3DHS does not. The PA Extra 260 seems to have more of the plane pre-built. Wings are hinged. Gaps sealed. Even the battery Velcro installed. Stand out is the PA Extra 260.
Following definitely seems to go to the 3D Hobby Shop group. Huge presence on RCG. Strong and loyal following. Perhaps the others are flying more, on the forums less (just joking).
I welcome feedback from anyone with an opinion. Which one would you pick and why? Are there other planes you would consider?

Yah. Very fun. But since it's RCG, probably everyone will be nice to each other. Blood would be spilled on some other sites.

I have an MXS on order...flown the other two.
1) 3D Hobby Shop’s 47” Extra 300 SHP - If you are learning 3-D it is a great option. (my first two balsa 3-D planes were the orginal SHP and Velox) Feels really light almost floaty in the air. Super easy to build...nothing tough at all. Easy to get parts and like you said...the following...ask a question you will get an answer.
2) MXS...let you know in a few days! If it flies like the Extra 300 EXP it is going to be awesome! There is a reason for 4S...ballistic power!! Very smooth...one of my favorites!
3) PA Extra 260 - Tough call...it is a love hate relationship with PA. I love them...hate building them. (Fuse is small, if you don’t buy their power system and servos you will have to mod a bit – motor mounts inside the motor box – takes a bit of time if you haven’t built one like that before.) I think that all the carbon is a little overrated. Don't get me wrong...I have flown all of them except the new Addiction and the MX. Does everything the other two do...feels like a 4S on a 3S system. I don't like the pull-pull on the PA Extra (uses string) and the fuse is very small compared to the other two. I enjoy the heck out of flying it...tumbles better than the 3DH Extra...but the MXS should be much better.
Really depends on your skill set and what you are looking for IMO.

Thank you Doc Austin for jumping right in with some of your awesome videos. I did say all companies have awesome pilots doing amazing things with their planes. Not looking for a video contest. Just an honest head to head comparison of the products.

IMO the 3dhs SHP will be the best for learning 3d. Extreme Flight is great but when it comes to harrier it takes a bit more work to lock it in than a 3dhs plane. I wouldn't even consider PA due to lack of CS.
