Old dude, new hobby
Ok so I am thinking of getting into R\C flying (on a limited budget for now) Just wondered if this is a good starting trainer http://www.nitroplanes.com/93a182-sk...g-v3-blue.html. If so nice that for $20 extra you can add on a flight sim with controller. Let me know what you think, forgot to mention 3 clubs in my area so no problems finding a place to fly, just have to decide which one to join (which I think I have went to a "big bird fly in" over the weekend...man am I hooked bad.

this is a better starter plane, from Nitro planes
http://www.nitroplanes.com/sldieprtf.html Scale is nice, but IMHO it will just be an airplane that is harder to land, with parts that break off. Starting out you don't need the compexity of an airplane you have to fly off a runway AND land again on the same runway. Better to learn about orientation, and stick control on a wide wingspan, airframe with lots of dihedral. You don't need (or want) ailerons starting out either. These type of hand-launch gliders, you just toss into the wind, with the motor on Landing, point it into the wind, cut the motor, and float down a soccer field, park, farmers field until it stops flying. You land back on the belly. Better performance without the weight of landing gear too. Plus you get a wider wingspan for the same price. I started with this one, and still introduce new flyers to RC, with this flyer. I did upgrade the RC receiver, to work with a 2.4 transmitter, I already had. The radios that come with these RTF kits are not very good. Better to look for a used Spektrum DX-7 at RCG if you really have the bug

Have you ever seen a Park Zone T-28 fly in your area? It's a great rugged little foam bird. Also, your LHS will probably have an availability of parts for it in case of a rough landing here or there. ![]() I have not heard good things about Nitroplanes. I'm talking quality or customer service or finding parts. The price may look attractive, but don't forget the old adage "You get what you pay for." Also, with 3-clubs in your area, there should be a lot of nice folks to help you out. Maybe do some buddy boxin' and the such. There is a lot to learn in RC, so have fun and give yourself a year or so to learn the basics. Hope this helps, Goodnight! -Buzzed |
