[RCSE] Electric Setup for 1.5 M HLG conversion for trainer

Hello all,
I need a nice slow trainer for friends and I thought about converting my
large chord polyhedral 1.5 meter sidewinders (the original wing) to electric.
I suppose a folding prop, gearbox or not, small light battery back and
a cheap motor would do nicely.

It can be a really pokey setup, 5 min of motor run would probably be fine.
Cheap is good since the plane will likely meet a horrible end.

Suggestions? I figure speed 400 is too much, I have no idea what prop to use.
Keeping the weight down will help keep the plane docile I hope. Plane is probably 10 oz now.
7x270 NIMH's + some can motor, or LiPoly batteries??

thanks

breck

RE: [RCSE] Electric Setup for 1.5 M HLG conversion for trainer

Hi Breck,

Dave Degroodt and I modified old handlaunch gliders for the Elexico event at
the NEAT Fair and they flew great. We used speed 400 motors with Zagi props
and 7, 350mah nicads. If you use a folding prop you should go with a
gearbox.
