After 9 Vee's, I have made the plunge with what I consider to be a beautiful hull. Its a brand spankin' new Miss Elam that i got for $155! This is one large hull.............its 14" wide! It is beyond gorgeous to me, and looks to be very well made. I am very excited and am planning this all out very methodically and carefully. It will be juiced by the robust Neu 1515 in the pics, powered by 8s thru a turnigy 80HV ESC (thats what its for Bill) I am using what i consider to be higher quality components and am cutting no corners here! Wish me luck............and throw out lots of ideas and input!

If you can find a place to put the batteries it should fly on 8s. Plugged in and watching.

What length is the hull? ~32"? 8s sounds like WAY too much weight in battery for a 1/12 scale hydro to me.

Thanks guys, i was thinking of duct taping the batteries to the top of the canopy.................... There is enough room in the rear compartment to fit them in my estimation............but i may put two in the cockpit in front of the motor as they will fit there. What should the cog be on a hydro? Its 28" long and wider than heck.......... The 8s has been my plan for some time. I always like to do something a bit different and i believe i have started with a good foundation in the Elam hull.........the 1515 should push the bit of extra weight with no issue...............its an 1100kv, so 8s would put it in the sweet spot! Of course this is a "build".........plans change at times when you go thru it, but i really want the 8s, and am glad to hear all the input as i go!

Yikes! 28" is a 4s boat, with the right parts you'll run over 50mph easily on 4s. The UL-1 is the same rough dimensions, and most hydro's are at least 50% as wide as they are long.

More weight means more damage if it flips or hits anything.

CG on a hydro is way forward to what it is on a V. Probably about 1" behind the trailing edge of the sponsons. I saw the room for packs in the back but it would make it bad tail heavy.

Yeah, but the motor i have is 1100kv............6s and larger prop would be an option down the road, but im trying this first.

I'm actually building up a hydro as well!!! I always wanted to get the Miss Elam, but timing and money was a factor so I settled on a converted Miss Vegas hydro. I think it's a little bigger than the Elam at 32". But I love the colour scheme of the Miss Elam, I might try and replicate it with my Vegas hull. But....

hey scorp,you need to run cg about 0-10% from the rear edge of the sponson to the transom,so your batts in front should be ok the only thing i would worry about is the weight of the 2 x 4s packs may make run wet or even want to make it nose dive.so it would be a case of running steady to start with and see what happens.
But good luck with build and keep us posted,and 8s in that little hull should move it quickly in deed if you can set it up right.

Thanks F1..........the packs were purchased with weight in mind. They are Turnigy 2s 3300 30c batts(x4).............fairly light and supply 99 amps continuous, 50% more than the 50-60 amps the Neu will pull...........and with the efficency of the Neu, i should get decent run times..........not looking for more than about 4-5 minutes anyways. The packs only weigh 200g each x 4 = 800 grams, whereas two 5000 30c 2s Turnigy's weigh 300g each x 2 = 600 grams. So we are talking about and additional 200 grams in batt weight from 4s to 8s...........7 ounces.
