Neither of those options....
I removed the covering and recovered it with dove grey and white ultracote. I had paint mixed to match for the fuse. The rudder was cut loose and rebuilt and rehinged.... The wing is "skin hinged" asper the original. The wing was done with 2 pieces of covering, 1 grey, 1 white....its a little trickey at first but if you do one wing at at time using the other to "guide" you its not bad....
If you plan on doing something like this plan on about 30 hours to get the kit into the same exact form as it cam out of the box the only change being a new color scheme.
Another hit for you scheme bashers out there...the red on the habu is insidious and no amount of primer is going to cover it...my suggestion is to sand the model down and put a base coat of black on first, then the primer of your choice...then paint...life will be good!
