Thinking your right on the 1400kv and bigger motor , better balance .
Here it is on 8s jetfan80 1680kv . Cg still too far forward , much better at 115mm.

I have an issue with my tamjet mains. The angle of the spring connection seems to loose tension just about 1mm before the wheel has straightened all the way. It seems the spring is still tight but it's not pulling any more as the tensioner hole is now rotating perpendicular to the spring. Hope that makes sense. Anyway, the net effect is that they lack about 1mm to fully straighten and that causes them to bind sometimes with the wheel well when they retract. Annoying at the least if not harmful to the retract over time.

Any suggestions?

OK, pic 1.. how the strut ends up
pic 2, how I wish it would end up.

with the slight angle in pic1 the wheel hits the wheel well and the retract buzzes then gives up. Just ever so slightly but enough to catch.

I think your spring has weakened , I would try to bend it slightly or replace. Mine pulls tight against the strut.
See how tight they are new.

It seems all you need to do is replace the springs. I bet if you contact Tam with the pictures he will supply you with a new one to try. Maybe the plane was sitting on the wheels for a looong time?

remove 1 or 2 coils from the spring if you want to correct that issue. easier said than done those springs are strong!

Dennis,
I think this is a known issue with Tam's Struts and he makes a maintenance kit for them.

+1
Tam will take care of you, but it would be quicker/easier to just remove a coil or two to get the tension you desire
