Homemade gooseneck and vang?

Anyone have a good link or description on making an inexpensive homemade gooseneck and vang? Mainly for a IOM or 36/600 sized boat.

Currently I am eyeballing Great Planes Turnbuckle/Pushrod 4-1/2"x6-32 and some Dubro Heavy Duty Ball Links 6-32 (2). Throw in a rubber washer at the 5mm hex section, and work the threads to loosen them up for easy adjustment for the vang. But using a single ball link as the gooseneck.

But I'm open for suggestions. The biggest factor is "inexpensive" at this time

Gooseneck and Vang

Hi Guz, Attached photo of homemade goosneck and vang made by Claudio on
his prototype AC100 one meter class boat. Remember the Vang has to be
able to be adjusted for travel in and out when the Boom lifts. Looks like a
good solution. Hope this helps. Regards

PS. Will post photo on next post

It's home made - 2 Dubro 4-40 ball links, a 4-40 screw, a piece of bent aluminiun

The DuBro ball links make good attachment points for the gooseneck and vang. I usually epoxy a brass or aluminum tube to the aft side of my mast, with a 1/8" spacer under it. Then wrap the mast and tube with glass or carbon fiber and coat with epoxy. This will keep the tube in place when there is a lot of "up" force on the end of the boom while at 90* to the mast, or that jibe in 20+ knots!

Then take two SS screws and pin the gooseneck to the top of the tube and the vang to the bottom of it, by epoxying the screws into the tube. This is how I have always done my Victoria, and there is no reason the 6/32 size shouldn't work for the larger boats.

I use 4-40 ball links and brass couplers for all my racing goosenecks and vangs. I epoxy the couplers into the ends of the carbon boom and carbon vang. Very cheap and reliable.

Here's one of my latest for a Soling 1M, you can adjust the top or bottom in or out, this will change the angle of the boom as it swings in and out.
