46" Amati J-Boat Endeavour kit

I want to converse with anyone who has experience with the 46" Amati J-Boat Endeavour model sailboat kit.

I wish to make a radio controlled version which will require deepening
the keel to make it stable enough for winds over 15 mph.

I am considering making a larger version as seen on EBAY. There are
two larger ones that appear to be very much like the 46" Amati
Endeavour. They are 59" and 62" which would be more suitable for
R/C.

the 2 kits i found on ebay right now are actually quite small ones 18 inches and the other is 48 cm. both seemed to be pre build just install the mast.

from the lack of a description i would be hesitant on dropping the $400 or so asking price and just build it on my own after securing some plans

All 10 J Boat plans from the 1930 - 1937 era adde to my website

The AMYA J-Class Sec'y provided me the 10 J-Boats of the 1930-1937 era sail plans and stations to be digitized. I am reworking them as necessary to post on my web site at www.angelfire.com/fl4/mft The resolution is adequate to make laser cut frames for models in virtually any size.

This is an interesting project due to the renewed interest in J-Boats. Some of them are being recreated in aluminum for racing and chartering. And, J-Boat races are becoming more frequent. Watch for them at www.sailinganarchy.com from time to time.

The AMYA J-Class is expecting 16 models in the 8' range for their
National Class Regatta in Chicago, IL in October this year. They registered
8 new J-Class models this year!

The AMYA Canterbury 48" J-Class expects 6 at their October 2nd NCR at Plainville, CT. The Canterbury J-Class is also very active in Christ Church, New Zealand.

Both of these AMYA Classes have suppliers of fiberglass hulls and lead ballast at very reasonable prices.

44" Amait Endeavour laser cut frames available on-line

My web site at www.angelfire.com/fl4/mft now shows the layout for the laser
cut frames and parts for the 44" Amati Endeavour J-Boat.

Patrick Foley of Greenboro, NC has a good start on planking his first set of two
laser cut frames for the Endeavour. He is making it as an R/C version of this
model with a lead ballast keel.

The lead keel was made by Hans Burger of Plainville, CT.
It is about 7 lbs and designed for the 48" Canterbury
J-Boat Class. He cut off 1/4" off the back edge and faired it into the
keel of the Endeavour model nicely. Check on the Canterbury J-Boat Class
by a quick search for them with Google.

Pierre Bertand of Mount Tremblant, Quebec Canada is also building a
44" Endearvour from laser cut frames I provided to him.

The laser cut frames and parts can be made in virtually any size.
He J-Boat designs from the 1930 - 1937 era are also avialble.

Thanks for the plug Milton but your customers should know the sections you show as being for Oheka are actually those of S-8 from the plans published by the Kriegsmarine for young modelers in the early 1940's as evidenced by the torpedo indents on either side of the hull. We have a file for the Oheka sections in our file section on ClassicWoodenBoatModels@yahoogroups.com

To all who are reading this thread please note that Classic Wooden Boat Models is a Power Boat group; not a sail group. We have had at least two individuals asking to join the group simply because they read Mr.Thrashers post.
