I Joined the Army!

So 8 or 9 months ago I decided I was going to join the military. The problem main problem was that I was 6' tall and 270+ pounds and wayyy out of shape. So I got going and started to drop the weight. After having problems with trying to get the paperwork straight everything fell into place and I went to Fort Jackson yesterday and today.

After only getting 2 hours of sleep the wake up call at 3:15am was too early for me. Got on a bus and took a trip to MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) hoping that everything would go well. After lots of waiting around, lots of tests and 12 hours without food it was finished.

I am officially in the army. My MOS is 68W - Health Care Specialist AKA Combat Medic. I will be shipping out to Fort Leonard Wood for 9 weeks of basic training followed by 16 weeks in Fort Sam Houston. So between now and then I will be flying a bunch.

Congrats recruit!

I can tell you from experience that Winter at Leonard Wood can be pretty damn miserable... very cold, wet, and muddy. You just have to grit your teeth and bear it. But at least they have nice barracks -- none of the old WW2 barracks remain.

In marked contrast, Sam Houston gets hotter than hell (and humid) in the Summer... but at least the Drill Sergeant's won't be dragging you through the mud once you get to AIT... much.

Either way, get used to having very little sleep and lots of marching around.

Good luck!

Way to go!

Everything worth doing is a lot of work.
You'll be glad you did it.
Well, maybe not right at first, but later you sure will be!

Thank you for doing it!!

Thanks guys, I am looking forward to going. I still find it hard to believe that it will be another 5 months of waiting to be shipped off. Im not one to shy away from working hard to get what I want and I was told by everyone that the military would be hard, not a problem. Then I decided to become a combat medic and everyone told me that would be harder, still not a problem. My goal in 68W is to become a line medic and everyone (military personel included) told me that would be really tough, I can and will do it. Im not one to give up and I all I have to do is keep that in mind and keep moving forward.

Adam
