thanks ..
it glides awsome , even without canards .

but i can see fixed canards would be a help . she is a touch nose heavy .

I have capped top and doing the bottom fuse now.

wondering is a 10g motor and a 6-10a plush will be enough ESC for this beasty

::
it's super stable and track stright even if i throw it wrong ... the foil , pulls it strait .

hehe you make a 2x size an you will ahve a blast.
but remembe rthis is 1.25 X my plans usual size.
so has the typical UM size wing span .

awsome glide test ..

more pics : http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...7#post16182247

she glides awsome , strait and level , when airspeed is too low she just smoothly hovers down , every time .

::

Flew mine again today. 2 great flights, heaps of fun. Working on moving the cg back after trying the inverted flight test. Planning the next one as well. Will be a little bigger to cope with the extra weight from motor/battery etc

WOW! Looks great, Prime 8!!! That is one beautiful bird -- can't wait to see her in the air!!! Where is the CG? I'm wondering because I was trying to imagine where the control surfaces would be. Perhaps I am over analyzing but I'm thinking that if they are cut in their original positions that they may be too close to the cg for good elevator control authority. I've never dealt with a forward wing sweep, so I'm not sure. Were you planning on making the canards move? and having just ailerons on the wing? Really can't wait to see this one! The fuse really looks great! --You're gonna make me build another!!! I'm supposed to be working on other projects!!!!!!!

LOL , good points SNice.
i was planning on just elevons .

CG is rite where i calculated it on plans .

and dang you rite , the outter aileron tips pass through cg by 5mm . LOL
LOL i may have to Add to the inner rear of the ailerons for more elevator authority.
or do actual canards. i was planning for fixed.
it's 2 servos either way , just with elevons also lets me mix flaperons into her.

all i can say is the glide rite now is awsome , the foil pulls it stable , if i defeat teh foil with masking tape , she gets a bit hairy , but still good.
other wise strit like a dart , once she ritee herself , as i tested some common wrong hand launche sand som down rite wrong tosses.. and she fixes her self with 4-5 feet of air below her without power,
but nothing fixes holding to long and aiming at ground , she is a dart , and gose wher she is told while she has air speed , when teh at drops she floats down , still very stable . no wing walk .
makes me wonder about high alpha. LOL

It's looking good scott! if you build a smaller one with fix canards using the 10 gram motor, you're going to need a certain degree up on your canards +\- 2degrees but no more than 2. This will keep your nose floating during low speed. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE.....Man I would love to make this one fly. I love swept wing figthers. If I decide to build a 22" ws, I will make the canards fucntional. It's really easy and we have enough room to do it + the weight of the extra servo will compensate the CG againts the motor weight.

Great Job once again SCOTT! I will give her a go when I'm done with the BAE HAWK.

Mayday.

thanks ..
yeah i have 1.4 now fixed and she floats liek a dream even with the servos in

still planning ellevon , but coudl go aileron & canard just as easy form this point.
( just make a bellcrank aileron thingy )

PS you bae hawk is wicked ..

can't wait to see your V2 , but a 22 inch version of this would rip . ...

i would trim them so they coudl swivel about the fuse area they are at .
put dowl through teh fuse in some straws either side as bushings .

teh glue a horn onto dowl inside. here is wat i had on my big one.

but for a micro the horn would be on outside for this one . UN less i re position my servos ... also possible.

similar to my idea. If you wanted, you could split that dowel into two, one for each canard, and have both elevatr and aileron control for the canards!

I wan to do that for a jet im making

yeah , elevons on canards , hmmm you know what ...

Ding ! ding ! i think your onto some thing .

teh rol rate will be low, but what if i link the ailerons to teh canards ? hmm
thoughts for tonight for sure, I will be waitting on power plant , as my RC budget hit ) again . LOL

i know the canards have a big influence on her .
so i will build her to test both .
or all 3 as snice was thinking , ailerons and elevator in canards ,
now canarderons , LOL
and plain old park jet elevons. LOL

just need a small spectrum RX , LOL .

I can see i will need to make a full 2x size of this one , and have 3 servos , LOL
best of it all .
spoiler/flapperons & canards .. hmm.
10 -15a version .LOL

i think everything can be done w/o a programming tx. This would most liekly be best to be able to programm, ,but... eh..

I might also be throwing too much onto the boat at once, but maybe some thrust vec?

you could have the motor attached to a wood mount, and have that mount attached to a heavy duty hinge, or two. that would make some pitch. for yaw, just add another hinge to the motor mount and the extensionof the hinge to the body that is verticall. Make sure the motor has enough room to move yaw-wise. If you can, add a servo onto the elevator hinge extension that controlls the yaw ot the motor. the yaw servo horn wil be connected to the yaw hinge extension.

might be tight on a smaller one. I would imagine a larger one would be fine.

i posted a ball joint one a few posts back ,
but you can make a easy gimbeld TV mount if you have rudder or aileron CH not mixed with eleveator .

as long as you ahve good servos it shoudl not bee too hard.
