I like what I see

now i had to try it for my self. 32" AOW 29oz. yes she's a fat one. thrust max @ 38 oz. the last plane i used this power plant was estimated @ 120 mph. she's not a looker but here are some pics. maiden was great. not as fast as i expected but i estimate it @ 80 - 90 mph. i made a few modes to the tail end of the fuse and vents to stop the batt and esc from over heating. hopefully the battery and esc can breath a little better and the prop will generate more air flow for more speed. she definately handles better than the previous scratched built(stryker). well done on the plans. can't wait to send her up again and see the changes from the mods.

Prime Jet-Blue 8

Hi All,

This thread is GREAT! I Just finished my first Prime Jet 8 (21"). It's now waiting on electronics. Being grounded due to rain, rain, rain
I have had the Winter blues and this Jet Blue project saved me.

So far this is a real light weight 3 1/2 oz.

Has anybody put a HD KeyCam on one of these 21 inchers? If not I'll try soon as rain stops.

Thanks again for the design & plans and all who contribute to this project thread.

So i am building one of these guys. I have made a minor change though. I moved my motor totally inside the fuse. This would move the CG forward a bit and i think make it look a little cleaner.

I am using a 1700kv Blue Wonder on it and it moved the firewall forward about 1 1/2". When i get it finishe up i will post some pictures.

I have been wanting a plane like this for a while now so it fits right in!

Thats a great idea! Definitely make it easier to attain the CG. You won't have to put the battery so far forward.

i just built a prime jet 8, and the cg seems to be spot on, except for the elevons are trimmed up about 1/4 inch for level flight. should i move the battery more back, or is this normal?

Thats pretty normal FC. However you can get a more normal pitch response by cutting the TE of the canard along the fuselage up to the spar, and using the spar as a hinge axis bend the trailing half down about half the foam thickness (.1") and that will allow you to relax the elevon to a nearly nuetral position. This is what I have done for the DF version and that allowed me to fly indoors with it as well.

You can try moving the CG but I suspect its going to get squirrely.

Yeah thats pretty normal. Did you build the one with canard? Try fine tuning the CG abit see how far you can move the battery to get rid of the elev. up trim. mine had a slight up trim, but inverted flights are no problems.

hope that helps,

the canards just broke off of mine due to a hard, sideways landing. i cleaned it up, and now it's canard-less.
is the CG any different?

good lord i love this plane

no canards moves cg back and raises the nose in stall speed.

but you could try moving the cg back a tad though i would just keep it and go fast.

or tooth picks & gg to stick em back on lol.

the proto types flew without canards just fine , just small canards expanded flight envelope. even in the original 8-10 inch tv
(air hogs f18 jet set powerd ) ones ..

Jet Blue 8 Comes to Life

All elctronics in and she weighs 9 oz. Seems pretty light to me.

This is my first "$ Tree build and having a ball. But now the real works starts.
I have never flown anything with this speed potential.

I will see if there is a similar plane on Real Flight system and get a feel for this plane.

Here's the set-up:
  • EMAX CF2805 Outrunner brushless
  • Power Up 20 Amp ESC
  • Prop Saver
  • EMP 6 x 3E Prop
  • 7.4 1300mah Lipo Bat

I probably will get a lot of simulator time in,
this is after all, Oregon.
We did not get all these trees cause it doesn't rain! Video next!

Dumb question. Do you cut a section of the main wing/center section out under the canopy to let the battery sit all the way to the bottom fuse panel?

Thats how I did mine. There is a note on the plans stating such.
