@Prime 8: Are you going to get enough elevon throw with the control rod almost 45 degrees to the plane of servo movement? I would have thought you would need to angle the servos out a bit.

I must admit I'm a bit curious as to how the FSW version will fly, because I've been thinking about building something like this ever since I saw the SB-28 a few years ago.

it glides well , dead still air out .. ( may take p51 up to field in a bit )

i added some to the ailerons , i took some video of the controls working.
I was thinking i should rotate the servos for more thow as the drag will not be much more , like you said.
i will add a new set of holes on horns closer in for more throws but don;t think it's needed.

with power it will be awsome . I was thinking i woudl add a mix E out to AUX ch , and have pure E input drive a 3rd servo to canards if i build a bigger version .

also figure if vert stabs where 45 deg they could be co-linked to elevons .
& acting more like an F22 air break when spoiler on.

but i can tell she need spedd at her current wing loading she needs 10mph i figure below tha you had best have spoilers on or your gonna' spiral in hard .

- so um yeah, if your like me, one may want some mixing for this version . but good pilots proly not a worry. but i'm not that good . LOL i use my mixes.

Mayday - very nice Hawk. I assume thats the 3000 kv blue wonder. What prop did you find works best on it? I have one on order as they were out of stock on the AXN's. My buddy is on his second one, having burnt up the first one. They get hot on 3 cells.

Had a couple more flights on the FJ and it's getting dialed in better each flight. I should have put Velcro on the wingtip pieces as they snap off like wafer cookies when landing in grass.

Prime 8 - looking good. I was wondering about those servo angles too but they seem to be ok in the vid. Just needs an evil paint scheme to complete the look.

@Prime 8, I think the elevon extensions helped, you should have enough throw to maiden it and see how it performs. Where is the CG right now?

Great job Scott. Can't wait to see her take the sky. My foam is not here yet, and I do not have enough scrap to build the version 2.

mayday.

Hey Russ I'm glad your FJ is getting better. As far as the wingtips I use RARE EARTH MAGNETS to make them detachable. P.S the hawk is an awesome performer with the 3000kv bw motor and 2s 1050mah lipo spining APC 6x4 prop..

mayday.

6a plush ESC
& 5x3 gws prop
and 460mah 20C+ rhino 2s.

budget & mass control this .
there was a red motor @ 9g but it was a few $ more and i was trying to hit a specific $ point. LOL

should get ~100+g of thrust .
i'm hoping AUW will be about 100G .LOL or better.

thanks.

:: looks like no problems .
AUW 52g + flight RX micro pack 21g for 73g as a glider!

now i will go check mass of my power system on order.
( 21g rx nimh pack only for testing & setup only )

52g ~
12.3g motor & mount + leads
6g esc
28.5g rhino 460mah lipo
=====
98.8g projected AUW +-~3g

"GWS 5030 / 127 gr / 3.21 A" from HK post below prod.
averag is 110g thrust with a 5x3gws

should have better than 1:1

Where's the CG???????

Everybody keeps talking about the CG for the FJ but nobody has come out and said where it is. Also do you think that canards with 2 degrees up incidence would be a good idea for slower flight and how would they effect highspeed flight?
