Profile P-38 Lightning - Now with Plans!

Flying Buddy of mine was talking today about he wants to find some plans for a P-38.

I haven't seen any that were quite the way I like to build so i designed one up really quick.

34" Span - 23" long

Designed for Blue Wonder motors.

Probably cut one out soon.

Anyone else interested?

Plans Available!

I never post plans until i make sure they work. I would hate to have people say that SGTalon has his head up his butt and doesn't know how to design a plane that flies!

Making it 48" is not a big deal. Once i get is settled it will be easy to scale up.

Holy Crap Glen!

That one goes all the way back to 2003! I i hadn't even found this site yet and was still a slimer back then!

I do remember following that thread for a while actually. But it still wasn't quite what i was going for. I like the addition of the horizontal for the engine nacelle/tail booms. I am also adding Carbon Tube in the wing and booms. Just some small 3mm stuff.

I have come to be a big fan of the 3mm carbon tube. It is light, cost a buck for enough for a standard size foamie, and it is small enough that is it totally buried in the foam.

So you aren't going to hold this against me are you?

SGTalon.... Where are you finding 3mm Carbon fiber tubing for so cheap? My local hobby Shop carries carbon fiber products but at a higher cost. I will have to wait for your 48" wingspan P38... Always wanted a twin! Mudman1959

SGT .... Naaaa !!!!! I Love to see this stuff developed ... everyone's individual "twist" on it just adds to the experience... COOL !!!

note: for those who can't deal with two ESCs , the single pusher motor on the rear of the central pod works very well ... not as much FUN as a twin ,doesn't sound as cool , but not as much hassle either ... just an alternative ... The P-38s fly really well ... we made the tail surfaces a mite bigger on ours , just for the extra stability ...

Hey Mudman,

I get my carbon from Hobbyking.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=6723
They sell the stuff for a bit over a buck. Then you have to add shipping. I usually put it in with an order of higher dollar products to spread out the shipping. They have to add a bigger box which adds cost to the shipping but you can get 17 in a box and have the shipping at $9.99 that works out to $1.95 per tube for the 4mm stuff (they are out of 3mm right now)

The cheapest i have found it in the US is from RCFoam.com They have it for $2.60 each.
http://www.rcfoam.com/cart.php?targe...category_id=94

Still way cheaper than the LHS.

I really wish the Local Hobby Shops would stop being stupid and just get the stuff direct from China. I am sure they can go to the hobbyking supplier and get this stuff for half what HK sells it for. Then they could charge double and we would still have great prices on the stuff. Right now they still get the stuff from china just through 4 or 5 middlemen.

I really need to work on this twin thing. I have 2 twins on the wall in my basement waiting for power. I just have never been willing to part with 2 motors for 1 plane!
