Hello, I have been wandering around the forum for a while without posting anything, but this, this is going to be ing awesome, I REALLY am looking forward to how this turns out, but when you do get it done, the one word to describe it will probably be: "Epic".
Good luck!

This might be the thread of choice for some while. Really looking forward to your build progress.
And the problem with 6 mini turbines would be what ? lol, joking
What sort of wingspan are you thinking of ?

Snagged

Gery-I have resisted posting anything on RCG for years now so that I would not get wrapped up in a time-consuming furball, but your project is worth the risk!

Way back, in '97, when I was still heavily into Power Scale Slope machines, I considered the H 18. However, as a slope soarer, it would have been tough to keep the wing loading low and still have a smooth performer. Interestingly, my sizing at the time was identical to yours now--98" span and my estimate of LE sweep at 20 deg was so close to yours at ~19 deg. I presume you were working from the wartime rendering as was I.

Nowadays, I am well into electric, have done several wings, both slope and electric, and will send a few observations. My main concern with my slope version was tip stall. With such a taper ratio, narrow tip chord, and sweepback, this will be an issue! You have included 5 deg washout, I see, which is a good step. Some clever airfoil design at the tip would also help. A final thot is to keep the weight low so that the tip-stalling speed remains below that at which you are liable to fly, mostly.

Seeing your nice renderings/models got me sketching again, at the size above. It makes me curious about the fans you intend. I looked at the Alfa fans at 59mm, but with the likely center section thickness at the outboard engine, I did not think these would fit. After some looking, I am now thinking about the GWS 40mm fans. They have a low current/low Kv model that draws 9A with 5 oz thrust. So 30 ozs thrust total, and if one can keep the weight under 70 ozs total, this is a pretty good T/W. This all means a light airframe, and my conclusion was to omit any landing gear. What do you think?
