Question
Gearing TRX Slash 4x4 w/ MMP 5700

I just got back from the track toady and experimented with a Mamba Max Pro 5700 kit that I installed in my 4x4. I initially geared it 12T pinion and 52T Spur. That seemed like it was running too hot (I bought a temp gun, but left it at work, so I don't have any numerical values). Then I geared it down to 12T pinion and 54T spur. It was slightly cooler but still pretty hot.
I wanted to see if anybody else was running with this set-up and what gearing you use. I think I may just end up keeping the esc in place and going back to the stock Velinion motor. I have a feeling that 5700 kv might be a little too much for this thing. I almost forgot, I'm running a 2 cell 30C 5000 mAh lipo.

I styarted out with a Sidewinder/5700 combo but in a 2WD Slash. I couldn't get it to run cool regardless of how I geared it. It overpowered the car too - all the wheelspin, I was slower than others running less motor.

I swapped for a 3500kv Velineon, runs a lot cooler and is now controllable. It runs cooler, mine is happy oin stock gearing with 20 to 25min runtimes.

yeah, the 5700 is to much for a 2wd and underpowered for the 4wd. i'd look at the velineon again or a 550 brushless motor from novak or tekin. those will do really good in the 4x4 slash.

I'm pretty sure I'm just going to put the 5700 back in the 2WD Slash it came out of, then put my Velinion back in. It worked fine in there to begin with, so why mess with a good thing. Castle has a new feature on their castle link that has torque limiting. I might try that once I put it back into the 2WD and see how well that works as far as wheel spin on take off.

If I had the money this would be perfect for the 4x4 slash

Very nice. If I wasn't dealing with a broken transmission (on my real truck) I might consider it for the 4x4.

Wouldn't you know it. I went to the track to run my RC's and test out the new Castle firmware. The 4x4 worked great with the new MMP esc and the old Velinion motor. throttle curves were great and the new center diff performed flawlessly. The only problem is that my gear mesh was off and I stripped the gears after one lap. Not a big deal, I've got more here at home.
Now I took out my 2WD Slash to try out the torque limiting feature on the MMP 5700. It worked great for the first few laps, then the ESC and the motor decided to fry. I'm not sure if it was a bug in the new firmware or what, but I'm gonna have to get in touch with Castle to see what's going on.

Hopefully they work it out for you, what battery do you run in the 4x4 slash?

that sucks that your esc fried, hopefully castle will help you out. the novak or tekin 550 motors, they are perfect for 4x4 sc's. that's why roar allowed them for 4x4 sc's. they needed the extra power they provided, like the velineon.

Using the Turnigy 30 c 2 cell 5000 mAh and Hobby Peoples 2 cell 30c 5000 mAh. Both seem to do the job pretty well. I'd ideally like to run the new Thunder Power batteries. I use the 45C in my helicopters and the power is insane.

Funny enough, I didn't find it while surfing the web. I just happened to see a printed copy of it on the wall of the local Hobby People. I just copied the URL and posted on the thread.
