Swap shop at HEF EXPO

We're not planning to have a swap shop - we are more interested in attracting a lot of regular vendors. But it's a long way off, so we'll have to wait and see what develops!

Event floor plan

The PDF attached here is a floor plan of the event, showing the planned flight lines and the general layout. The center (main) flying area is 300 x 200 feet. The grandstands are located behind the vendors and the flight line (which will be on the track). The length of the entire floor is 600 feet, more than 1/10 of a mile! (NOTE: flying areas are planned and subject to additional changes and/or adjustments).

Attached are two flyers that can be used to hand out to interested parties. Please help us to get the word out - take it to your next club meeting, or ask your local Hobby Store to post it! MANY THANKS to Gary Dietz for his assistance with this!

I understand that this is a first time event, but it would be nice to have some more info. For example "1500 hotel rooms available" tells non local people nothing. Some suggestions about what's actually close would be nice. Also, the flyers indicate there will be several contests taking place, however I couldn't find any rules. What are the aircraft size/battery restrictions for combat and pylon?

Sent the address to 2dogRC - thanks!

Hey Azarr, nice to see you! - The HEF website now has the partner hotels listed (they have special rates for the event). There are pretty large number of hotels and motels in the general area. There are two decent hotels at Austinburg, which is 10 miles down the interstate at Rt 45. $65 and $69 a night. #7 and #14 on this list:

http://www.hotels.com/search/search....SELLER&vt=LIST

I found 5 more, these are actually in the town of Geneva but they are "motels" - which is probably fine. Some are very close to the GaREAT complex

http://maps.google.com/maps?rls=com....ed=0CDoQtgMwAA

The event site is at the Geneva exit of Rt 90.
It's not on the map yet (Google Earth shows empty field)- but believe me it's there.
In the last 3 weeks they have put up another new building (for an indoor Olympic swimming pool).

Events at the HEF

We have discussed having events:
  • Combat Sat & Sun
  • Carrier landing
  • 3D contests
  • Noontime demos
  • Nite flys
  • Pylon Racing

We'll also have other contests such as "best scale model" etc. We'll have FOAM AND TAPE as our featured performer! In general, limit the motor size to a "250" class motor (about 100watts) and 1lb weight limit for the event (we can make exceptions for special cases) . For best results, keep your models small.

And of course there is more info posted on the website. http://www.hef-rcexpo.com
The best person to contact is Tony Husak at: racer749@gmail.com - because he is the event coordinator. Here is what we have talked about:
Combat: full combat, with an entry fee and the pot going to the winner. Repeated on Sunday if there's interest. Probably a reasonably small battery like 800-900-1000mah (2 or 3 cell) but we'll have to get that nailed down.
Carrier Landing: we'll have a carrier the size of a 4x8 sheet and most likely will invite Vapors and other micros to try to land on it for a prize
3D contests: most likely some kind of freestyle "smackdown" where we'll let the audience judge the performance of the entries, for a prize
Noontime Demos: for our vendors and sponsors. We will keep this short and sweet.
Nite Fly - on SATURDAY evening we'll turn off the lights for a time so planes with lights can show off. Most likely there will be a prize for the one that we like the best. Bring sunglasses.
Pylon Racing - we'll set up some foam pylons for "relatively equal" micro planes like the little ParkZone P51s, or T28s, or Champs - to race around for a prize. We've been testing that set-up for the past few weeks at the GaREAT center. We could also have an "unlimited" race for anyone who wanted to participate, on an ad-hoc basis - if we get the interest. My Rare Bear will be good to go for that!
AND we can have other events too, depending on how things go.
I'll get on Tony to get some official announcements together and will update this as soon as I get more info. -Marc
