Hopefully it will get out this year but the temps have been hovering around high 30's the past few days.

I walked into the shop tonight and he was looking over a P51D that he started a long long time ago. I'm guessing back in the 80's is when it was put away for other warbird projects. It is an old Top Flite kit that he was never really impressed with. The scale is "off" but it will make a good beater bird. I'd say it is about 75% complete.

The corsair gets my vote! Really is the most forgiving plane in my hanger, a real fun plane to fly.

I'm going to install the Warbird Whistle and I see that it has been installed in the scoop and I think it works well there?
The instructions show to install it under the wing.
Does one location perform better than the other?

I was out flyiing the Mustang all morning. The more I fly this, the more I like it.
So much more fun than the foam planes I have!
The wind sock was straight out from the wind and I didn't have any problems at all flying under those conditions. That strong of a wind makes my foam planes unflyable.
It must take a wild amount of wind to throw this around?

I've used the whisle on smaller P-51's and it works just as well on the side of the scoop as it does under the wing.

The whistle just makes it sound like a crappy EDF. I dont get it.

I have never heard one. Have you heard one in person?
I'm hoping it will be just slightly audible over the normal sound the plane makes?

If so please tell us how it went? Was there anything nasty revealed under the covering?

On a quiet electric prop job it does sound like an EDF...although I couldn't tell you if it sounds like a crappy EDF cause I don't have any EDF's....crappy or otherwise....

I believe it was made for a gas powered warbird as just to add a bit of a whistle like the Spits and P-51's.

I plan to this winter as well as adding a Malcolm. I plan to light glass cloth and paint. Tired of having the covering wrinkle and a different color than the palstic parts.

I picked up one of these birds NIB for 125.00 bucks. I'm going to strip the covering off and probably use 1/2oz cloth and finishing resin, then paint it. Plan on using this one to prepare me for the bigger Model Tech P-51D(not the fun scale version) that I will convert to electric.

I picked up the Malcolm hood too. And since I have been playing around with an airbrush I have been totally impressed with just how good a nice paint job can look compared to what the planes look like off the shelf. I don't mean the Eflite P51B. It looks great in stock form.
But I do have two of them, so I want to play around with one.

It might be shameful but I'm seriously considering changing to the Malcolm hood, painting to match early 1940-1942 B.O.B. colors and using the Hawker Hurricane Callie Graphics kit.
Totally doesn't belong on it but it really would look cool.

What type of fiberglass coating are you guys going to use?
I know I need to do something to strengthen the soft balsa instead of just painting it. I don't want to add much weight either.

Going to use Zpoxy 1/2oz cloth and their finishing resin.

Here is a short video of my Maiden of my 2nd P-51B. It was gusting @ 10 mph so when I took off - it wanted to go right into the direction of the wind...I was able to power it through and had a successful flight once I got some airflow over the wings.

Here's to all of you Mustang pilots! I plan to fly again in this great TX weather...

yes, this is also what I use, but not afraid to go to the .6 or .75oz/sqyrd stuff either.
