Started a Vic Smeed Tomboy today. I didn't have any 3/16" anything, so I am substituting it with 1/8" x 3/16" hard balsa. I have a Dave North hand wound dlRK blue and red wonder and 610 2s pack ready to go.

Fuse is getting close, now planning gear positions and access to the gear when its done. I looked at the blue wonder, too much power, so I am going with a Lensrc 17t CD/ROM motor, gws 8-4 prop, C.C. Phoenix and a either a 610mah 2s or 800mah 2s lipo. The landing gear is lashed to the firewall with Kevlar thread and thin cA. more tomorrow

If the pack will fit just behind the former the gear is laced to, put it there.

servos easy: 1/4 sq spruce rails across fuselage near CG. Access via wing

Lightweight pushrods or snakes to tail.

rx somehwer in a balsa box ..

Or you can make a servo/RX tray out of 1/8" balsa with 1/16" ply strips to take screws..glue under lower window frame.

But only if you get the geometry right.

orangeandwhite are you reducing dihedral or wing incidence at all? It seems like those issues are always popping up when doing RC conversioons to these old timers.

Here is the rc version of the Tomboy as drawn by Boddington. I believe the dihedral is the same as the FF version.

Thanks Vintage, yes, the battery will fit against the firewall with velcro, and make a hatch. A Rx / servo tray made of 1/16 balsa with 1/16 ply strips at the c.g. under the wing. Kevlar pull pull on the elevator and rudder.

Nothing looks like it has been changed in those areas. That is a good thing as I have started with the wing. I willbe using the Hobby Lobby Esskay 400XT up front. Should be a great cruiser at about 1/3 throttle.

What battery with that 400xt? and what will the auw be?

Per Vintage 1's recommendation I am going with 2s lipos and a 9X7 or 10X6 prop. With this set-up he figures it would best duplicate the Mills .75 diesel performance she was designed for. I am shooting for 11 to 14 ozs. with this one. I don't know what most folks are achieving with the RC assist type but it seems to me I saw 12 ozs. somewhere.
