DLG flying in Utah

I'm starting this new thread dedicated to DLG flying in Utah. This will be a place for all Utah DLG enthusiasts and wannabees to post and read notices of local fun-fly sessions, tips on launching/flying techniques, building, equipment, competition practice & strategies, photos & videos, etc. Anything and everything DLG.

This most challenging and most rewarding (the ultimate) RC discipline is tough to pursue alone. It is time to get all the closet DLG fliers around here organized, and start having some fun together and learning from each other. Bordering states are welcome to join us as well if your state doesn't have anything going yet (come on ID, WY, and NV!).

I also hope to make this the future home of "Team Utah" to support the "Blue Skies Over XX" series of DLG/F3K contest events currently held in AZ, NM, and CO (we will support other western US competitions as well). Go Team Utah!!! I hope we can eventually host our own annual "Blue Skies Over Utah" event to round out the Four Corners series. This would be a sanctioned qualifier where the top finishers would earn invitations to the Team USA trials, where the top finishers there go on to represent the USA in the world F3K championships. If competition is not your thing then don't worry, this will be the place for casual flying as well.

When you go out to fly, please post a notice here to let others know so they can possibly join you. It is much more fun and educational that way.

If you have any interest in DLG, or think you may in the future, please subscribe to this thread and monitor it frequently.

Thanks!

Mike

Why DLG?

Great thread on why we love DLG and what attracted us to it. Also some interesting age statistics.

Please make an initial post here to check-in, introduce yourself, and let us know what and where you fly.

I currently fly a Vandal (http://jonesprototypes.com/). Also have a 'TopSky 2 Viper' kit waiting to be built, and just bought a used Blaster 2 (not here yet). Sold my starter plane (a 'Solo' from soaringusa.com) to Jake in Ogden who I hear is enjoying it immensely. I fly several times a week during my lunch hour at the Kent Smith park in Mtn Green. I also fly a lot at the Balloon Festival field in Eden. Willing to travel to other locations to fly with others

I'm currently working on a TopSky 1 DLG. I haven't flown a DLG yet, but am looking forward to it.

Oh ya. I'm in. Thanks Mike. Sorry for such little support. I'd love to take off with it more, but I can't many weekday nights, Sundays, and many Saturdays have been taken up with other responsibilities.

Subscribed. I have been thinking a thread would be a good idea. Now I just need a plane and a transmitter capable of DLG.

A couple of good locations in Davis County:

1. Barnes Park, Kaysville (West side, enter off of Flint Street)
2. Ellison Park (East side of the park, enter off of Hill Field road)

Barnes park is a good DLG spot, but I've never been to Ellis

Ellison is much more open than Barnes Park. I think for DLG alone, it would be better. Barnes has that great parking area that is perfect for take-offs--not a big advantage with DLG.

Do you mean "Ellison Park"? I couldn't find an "Ellis Park", but found an Ellison Park on the north side of Hill Field Road about 2200 W in Layton, just south of Swan Lakes Golf Course.

Your absolutely right, I will edit the above comments.

Thanks for keeping me honest!
