I don't think I have ever seen a great write up like that before. What a great amount of time to do that. Those people deserve an award.

I bet a kudos would suffice. I left some positive comments the first time I looked at the site..it is ran by only three guys. You should see the database they have on electric motors, especially the Hobby King oness....truly impressive.

Cheers,
Steve

Ok... yesterday i finally got the plane in the air. It was a bit windy, so i didn't get the good feeling i was hoping for. But it's very predictable and very easy to fly. Looking forward to calm conditions and more tests. Maiden flight was captured by a friend of mine with an iphone4... :

Looking good!

From listening to the sound of the motor/prop, it sounds like you're running a small prop. Were you having to go near full throttle much of the time? Have you checked current draw of the motor?

Also, did you try the flaps?

Maybe on a calm day, you can show us how slow it will go?
Did you empty the batteries? I noticed the you did not taxi back.
Maybe you were having way too much enjoyment?

The prop i used was a 12x6. Would not go for any smaller. Doesn't go unlimited vertical, but power is ok. But i will try a bigger one next time. I have 13x8 and 14x7 too. I don't have a wattmeter, so i'm not able to measure anything. But i guess this setup can handle a lot more amps, and give a lot more watts.

The flaps make the plane jump in the air, and the speed reduction is quite good. But again, hard to get the right feeling in windy contitions. Did not use flaps during takeoff.

I did not empty the battery. The small prop is very efficient. But the wheels don't go very well in the grass. That's why i didn't taxi back. I will charge the battery tonight, then i will know how much i used...

I think it can fly very slow. It glides forever with no throttle... But i will do some more testing when the wind is gone

I charged the battery yesterday, and only 1500 mah was used on the maiden flight, which surprised me a bit. That means that i can fly maybe as long as 15 min pr. charge Seems like this is a very efficient setup, yet not very powerful...
