Baratacus, here is the comment you answered too, right away:

Your answer to that was:

Which for all of us meant, you could get the full electronic package from HH for only $80. But now, you're simply quoting cheap stuff from HK.

Trust me, we all know you can get cheap stuff from HK. Sure enough, maybe one day, we will be able to get the AR6400LBL from HK too. But until then, there's only one source for the Beast electronics, and it's HH. Sure enough, if they ever make a package, it won't be $60 or $80. Heck the Rx alone will cost that much.

Bowerz, you had me think I was loosing my mind, but trust me, in most countries, including yours, the PNP was LATE

I went looking because I was getting crazy, and guess what I found: You, complaining the PNP 4-Site were not coming at the same time as the BNF (you just had found out there was a delay...)

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...&postcount=362

Here's the official line from Horizon Hobby themselves about PNP being delayed:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...&postcount=495

While digging though, I did found out that some countries may have got both PNP and BNF at the same time. Well, at least Italy and possibly Germany. UK and U.S. had a very short delay (two to three weeks max before the PNP showed up). I'm a canadian.... We got over a month delay between both models.

So, yes, there was a delay between both version. Most likely because they could only fill so many containers, and they wanted to sell more BNF which likely had a higher profit margin (even if it's not much). Other containers following up had the PNPs.

Back to the UMX thread... Which luckily come in only one flavor!

So, how was it, how was it? I recently dropped my DX7, breaking the antenna (for which one is already on order). I think it's a sign that I have to switch to the DX8 no? Less than 5 airplanes, and I'll ran out of model slots anyway!

Heavy? Easy to hold? Come pre-programmed with the Beast in slot 1? Nice easy to read display?

C'mon, there's not much to talk about the Beast, just waiting, and waiting and waiting two more weeks in Canada, so give us the scoop.

At about 5:30 to 5:40 in the video on the very first post they said this will be a BNF only model because it is complex and basically requires a computer TX. Also with the cost an RTF would be well over $250 USD since it would need to be packaged with a DX6i.

The one in my transmitter case?

Well, suddenly, it started looking much much better! I also got one of those adapter for the strap, so I'm all set. All that to catch my Mustang because I broke my low wind rule, and flew it in 10mph winds. It came straight at me, so I thought, let's catch it since I could break it when landing.... End result, Tx on concrete, but not a scratch on the Mustang... Yeah!

Antenna only cost $9.99 but since it was the same price everywhere else, I ordered it from http://www.robotmarketplace.com/store.html which were also selling two little boards that looked interesting to me:

RC Switch with Digital Output
http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/0-PL752.html

RC Switch with Small Low-Side MOSFET
http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/0-PL1210.html

Not even sure what I'll do with them, but they looked cool, they were relatively cheap, and I'm sure I'll find something to do with them eventually, even if it's just a lighting switch... Or maybe hooked to a simple piezo buzzer I can switch on if I ever loose a plane in a farmer field long weeds....

Hmmm, maybe some machine gun sound for the Mustang...

Nice site I wasn't aware of.

Thanks for that!

Well, they are mostly dealing in high power and heavy stuff since it's for robots, but those little boards are extremely light, and relatively small, so could definitively be used in UM. Worst case, they'll end up in one of my big planes.

Still thinking about what I could do with them... Maybe a two batteries set up, with a release so you can drop the first empty one in flight and keep going while you're lighter. Just for the fun of it. Hmmmm..... Even going for 3... One on each wings that could be dropped together.... Each other being a backup if their pressure contacts are flimsy... Both empty, you drop them (small selenoid) and keep flying from the middle one. Biggest problem I can see is switching to the middle one since you don't want to use it until needed. A FET could probably do the trick...

Hmmm, did the Mustang ever had extra tanks under it's wings? Little foam simulated tank would protect the batteries from being dropped...

Naaaah, that will probably be a simple light kit for the Beast (that's my plug for staying on the thread). It's on 2S, so more power to spare? With a backlit instrument panel, since for the first time, we can see through the cockpit!

Oh, yeh, no i do remember that now you are right. I got my PNP as a BNF but they just took everyhting out apart from the plane. Most places where doing that as well.

Shoot, I was just thinking out loud... Now, I guess I have to do it. Those tanks are huge, so fitting two small lipos in there, some small spring loaded contacts, and a servo to drop them. I should be able to use one of the little board to switch power to the main battery before dropping the other two. Neat little winter project

Hmm, you could make a switch for the 2 extra batteries that is acitvated with a servo. Once you hit the servo, the servo will turn off the switch and then drop the lipo battery tanks. But then the batteries would be a little heavy. Lets say you used a hyperion 160mah, 4.8g says my scale. Times 2= 9.6g. Plus the extra servo and wires=~2g. Plus extras(paint, foam tank, etc) 2g.Total added weight is estimated 13.6g. Although connecting the main battery on is a little trickier. I'd say go for it! Then the mustang can fly long range escort missions!

I flew the Vapor a few hundred feet in the air with an onboard camera that was about as heavy as the plane itself. It's amazing the weight you can put on those little things and still fly them. With 3 batteries and dropping two, I'm hoping for only twice the flying time, but getting a simple cool effect. I do want to use one of the little board I bought though. Will be like your bomb dropping mod but with a twist!

That's why when I said adding weight to the spinner would affect C.G., but I never said the plane would not be flyable! The Mustang is simply very sensitive when adding extra weight.

Now, back to the Beast thread.... Is that plane here yet?

I have a question. I have a Hobbytown near me. How do pre-orders work? Do you have to pay in full? Is there a certain time you have to pick it up in? Info much appreciated.

Thanks

Yep, the glue affects the CG a tiny little bit. I flew my cessna 210 last year with 2 quarters inside of the cabin, and it flew! But it couldn't climb that much. If parkzone made a micro b-17 then the micro mustang with the extra tanks would be awesome! Keep dreaming!

The micro beast is not going to be here for a while I guess. Hope they come out on time. I want to read flight reviews about this micro !
