Problem is, that IR sucks big time in direct sunlight and or lights in most gymnasiums, so, I doubt they'll be in planes.

They'd need another system I would think

I knew you'd see it my way, eventually.

Something like this, only w/ HH style/quality/bindage:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...hz_Ready-2-Fly

I, of course, would prefer the 260 over the 300.

And of course HH could always "fly the colors" (in UM form):

And, well...since we're on the sub-subject of Extras...can you spot the Extra in this pic?

(didn't think so)

Hah! Apollo LORAN? That stuff was decommissioned ages ago! It was the hot ticket in it's day, though.

Woah the "one time only" discount on that goes from $136.95 to $59.35

Anyone know if anyone has ever made one?
Don Srull made a fantastic free flight of the Dornier X. I think he had six motors and six freewheeling props. Someone else also made one recently, but I forgot his name.

BTW, Srull also designed one of the video surveillance planes they are flying in Iraq and Afganistan.

Edit:

I really should learn to read the whole thread. Nice video. Don Srull made his many years ago, and the other one that I mentioned was also a US modeler. In the old days of RC scale they gave credits for extra engines and scale operating features. A lot of people fantasized about the DO-X since on just the engine count you could win against almost anything.

I had these tiny "cigarettes" that smoldered and blew smoke rings. I wanted to stick one in my pilot's mouth and claim the smoke rings as an operating feature. Never got around to it.

Since I first saw this UMX I thought it would be sweet to have an UMX Extra, Edge, or SU-29. Maybe a tad bigger than the current 15" WS but below 20" so it's not slow. I want something fast with real climbing power as shown in the Beast vid. I was disappointed at the speed of the SU-26xp when I got it. An UMX EDF would definitely find it's way to my micro hangar, especially an F-86. The rumored pylon racer would be nice for speed but given the choice I'd rather have a fast stunt plane and an EDF to cover the bases of what I want from a micro plane. If they did an UMX Extra it would be the first plane I would preorder without hesitation.

I'm with you on the Extra. I also think that a small EDF would raise the price to the unacceptable. Either that or they would have to take a serious cut in profit. If you make something the amount of raw material is usually the least expensive item. (unless it's uranium or something) The big thing is parts count and the time spent putting it together.

Electronics is pretty inexpensive because so much of it can be automated. Foam bodied aircraft are cheap because the parts count is so low and there is no fitting, they align without a problem. I wonder about the cost of making brushed vs. brushless motors, but when it comes to ducted fans you are building a chunk of machinery that may require hand work and inspection since tolerances tend to be close.

The upshot is that the more stuff you jam into the foam the more it is going to cost and when the cost starts to exceed that of larger stuff you are getting into a zone where only aficionados (sp?) dwell. In other words, were there is little money to be made unless you create a market.

Maybe Horizon HAS created their own marked. After all, we keep waiting for the next great thing to arrive.
