I like the brushless motor and clear canopy on this one, certainly do not like the very un-elegant ailo servo mounting under the wings. And I'm surprised they're calling it an ultra micro, the wingspan is about the same as the other UM's but that puts it at a larger scale than the others (since 1:1 bipe wingspans are shorter than their monowing counterparts). With it being 2 cell and 2-1/2 times the weight of the other ultra micros it's not really in the same category, it's more of a "micro" rather than "ultra micro". The heavier wingloading should make for a great outdoor aerobatic flyer though. Should be able to deal with wind a little better than the 4 Site.

Maybe they've invented a way to avoid bending the motor shaft when it crashes?
The motor is an outrunner. The whole housing spins and it looks like the prop adaptor is bolted to the housing. Outrunners aren't prone to bent shafts like inrunners are.

I hope so.. I also hope that Hobby King comes out with a Turnigy nano-tech that will fit for under 2 bucks. And in time for me to order them and have them before the plane even ships..

Per the stats it's a 2s setup, so to use it on the Sukhoi or P51 you'd have to swap out all the electronics and use different batt's. Based on the advertised weight of this one I'm guessing the components are heavier, so if the parts are swapped onto another UM it'll probably increase the weight quite a bit. That might not necessarily be bad, it'll just make for a much faster flyer (higher wing loading). I'm sure someone will try it not too long after this comes out

I think ultramicro really means you can fit it assembled into one of those boxes we are used to for our other UMs.

The don't call them 1/32 or whatever it would be for a reason, they aim for 14-18" wingspans and call it a day, which i'm perfectly happy with.

When they make 8" wingspans they'll call em Super Duper Micro or something .

Kinda scary seeing them under the wing however, on top of the bottom wing would have been far safer!

No flaperons (stock, anyway) on this one. Why are they using a Y-harness to connect the aileron servos???

My exact thoughts. This in the size of the PZ corsair/me109/trojan would be fun.

This should be interesting though. I'd eager to see vids of this baby in action. I'm personally viewing this as the coming of Ultra Micro 2.0

Calling LHS now to place my order. Even if it flies like junk the guts will be used in many home made planes in the future.

I really doubt it will fly like junk. Evey new UM plane I have bought since the UM 4-Site has been great. I was flying my new XP last night and could not be any happier at it's improvement over the original.

Tom

Current list of UM's
Dynex 2.4 milled (old 4-site guts, indoor)
Mini-Slick (old Sukhoi guts, indoor)
4-Site (yep another one to replace the one I trashed)
Champ on Floats (for a 3 channel it rocks)
Sukhoi XP (Yes it is new and improved)
Original Citabria (flies great and handed to anyone that wants to try)
T-28 (on order)
Beast (on order)

Indeed it looks so. Not a big problem to be honest though as all you need to do is unplug the Y-Harness and plug the servos directly into the reciever. They have probably done it so that it can be used with non computer radios such as the DX5e.

I just hope its here before christmas

WOW

That is a a great video. Love the knife edge loop. I can see a lot of people getting into some trouble with all that speed and control throw. But I'm really happy to wait for it now!!!
