Here is a too long video of my UMX Beast (non A3X) version flying in winds of less than 5 mph on a gorgeous evening in my backyard. I am no 3D flyer so I just enjoy how much fun this little biplane is. I am running a RCBABBEL Hyperion battery and an upgraded prop. It goes great for 5 minutes and then starts to fade. I land at 6 minutes with 20% left in the pack. Enjoy.

UMX Beast 8-20-12 (5 min 48 sec)

Hi guys,
finally got myself a Beast 3D yesterday.

Unfortunally, it appears to lose connection with the Tx (DX8) after some 30 seconds into flight:
motor cuts, control surfaces don't move anymore, bird goes down (over grass luckily).
It seems to reconnect after some seconds, working as if nothing was wrong.
I wanted to avoid any damage in case I'll have to RMA it, so I didn't continue to test yesterday.
I did do a range check though, and even with reduced output, it reacted from the same distance I was fyling before.

I would be very thankful for any tips to isolate the problem.

Cheers,
Mac

I was having very similar random lockouts (also using a DX8). After a while I sent it back and Horizon gave me a replacement. The new one has been absolutely fine.

The closest I can come is the on-board voltage regulator. When I flew with 3S this exact same thing would happen sometimes until I put a heat sink on the voltage regulator. This is different than OTC, as everything goes dead. I'd dend it back.

Thanks guys,
called up HH yesterday, they assumed a faulty board and recommended returning the bird to my LHS (in Germany, all RMA has to be done via the store you bought in).
I was lucky they had one more B3D in store.

This one has no hangups, but one of my batteries turned out to be a dud, hitting LVC after just 15 seconds.

This meant I could only fly one batt with the B3D, as I was eager to maiden the Mig 15 as well.

What flight times are to be expected with the stock 200mAh Batteries?
Any alternatives recommended (I'd gladly trade a bit of agility for a flight time)?

Thanks & cheers,
Mac

Did some flying when I was 45-48 got out due to kids etc, just got back in getting ready to retire and wanted to get hanger filled up before paycheck ends!

Gotta love these new electrics, no mess to clean up or fuel spills in car.
Plenty of flying time per charge, light easy to repair!

different hobby than 80's.

IDK.
I was wondering if there was another version, and what the difference is.

There is, but it's no longer made. The v1 had no AS3X and a lower kv motor that most (including me) prefer. I put the old motor in the new Beast and am a happy camper. That, along with good (non E-flight) battery packs and a 5043 prop and the Beast really wakes up! There's lots of good info in this thread, I know it's long, but it's worth a peruse.

Oh, and then there's 3S power, of course. Talk about waking a plane up!!

Use a 5030 with the stock motor or a 5043 with the v1 2300kv.

Most run 3S with no modifications. Some need a little heatsink on the ESC's FET's. A very few more need a heatsink on the voltage regulator. No one has reported frying a Beast 3D brick on 3S yet.

I use Thunderpower 250mAh 3S. A little heavy, but I got 'em for about $8 each and it's a rocket!
