Safe to charge a 5 year old LiPo?

I have a single cell 250mah LiPo that I bought some where around 05 and never used it. It measures about 3.1 volts currently. Think it's still safe to use/charge?

I would probably charge it at 100mah or so for starters, outside and in a LiPo bag.

What say ye?

Thanks!

What could go wrong with a guy named wrongway charging it?
I'd charge it in the open so I could see what was happening.....but maybe you don't want
to watch it for 2-3hrs.

Has it got a C rating on it?

I would charge it at 250mA. Little can go wrong with a 1S pack of that size when using a decent quality charger.

Whether it will hold adequate voltage under load to be useful is the real question....

I have many packs over 5 years old that work fine. (e.g. E-Tec 250, E-Tec 450 and original TP 2100-3S.)

Give then respect and treat them no differently from a safety standpoint as any pack.

If you have a good charger, the best way to determine a battery's condition is to check it's IR (internal resistance.)

Thanks for all the input, guys. I may just go ahead and give it a whirl with a good dose of caution...no sense in keeping it if it's gone belly up but I guess I won't know until I give it a charge.

Best regards!

(LOL @ Hoppy ;-) )

Charge it at .1 - .2A and watch for any swelling.
