Peter Rake's 30" General Western Meteor Prototype
The General Western Meteor has been a subject of interest to me for almost 2 decades. I wanted to build one at 50" with .19 glow motor for some time. Then the electric brushless outrunner lipo bug got me. So when Peter Rake was looking for some subject suggestions, I chimed in with the Meteor monoplane. Much to my delight, it resonated with him, and he churned out a set of plans.
I contacted Charlie at Monzano Laser with a request for a set of parts. Very good people to work with. Today the parts arrived, packaged with care. I have to say, and most of you probably know that presentation is part of the quality picture. That is exactly how I was impressed with package of parts. Neat and clean, always gets my attention. So a quick kudos and thanks to Charlie and the people at Monzano. Picked up the wood from the local hobby shop (Propshop Hobbies in Warren, MI, USA) Friday, and now we are ready to get started. I will cover the construction by the groups of parts, fuselage, tail empannage, wing, landing gear, cabane struts, assembly, covering, and finishing. Then the dummy motor, and electronic equipment installation. I will therefore save blank posts to be filled in as this build progresses. Hope to do you proud Pete, Ken

Fuselage Construction
Sunday, August 15, 2010;
Started the fuselage side frame assemblies. Pretty basic stuff so far. Carefully sand the ends of the uprights to get a flush tight joint. Stronger joints and less glue. Ken

Ken,
I rather like this idea. It keeps all the important stuff, the build details, in one place. Steve, This is the motor I'm showing on all this range. It fits relatively slim noses quite well. http://robotbirds.com/catalog/produc...oducts_id=2196 Pete |

Steve,
Good point on the maiden flight report. I guess you'll have to read the thread this time. Ken
