Congrats on the maiden Orvis, looked great, it really is a sweet plane to fly. Such a shame about your Dewoitine though, hope you can get it back in the air.

Thanks Tim! It is definitely a great plane to fly. I particularly like doing low flybys with it.
After some thought, I don't think I will repair the Dewoitine. However, I haven't discarded the model either. I'm going to offer it to any member of my club who may want to rebuild it. If not, who knows, maybe in time as my own skills at building progresses, I may revisit the notion of rebuilding.

I have not used them in mine yet, but there is no reason why they should not work.
The original retract mechanisms in the Seafire are identical to the ones in the Seagull Dewoitine which the 120 size E-Flites just "drop in" with no modifications.
They also worked great in the Dewoitine up until I put the plane into the ground.

if anyone does not want to use the oleos that come with the seafire these fit great.

they fit straight in with just a little sanding needed on the plastic stopper on the stock retracts.so they retract fully and lock up.well made,cheap and look great.much better metal than the stock legs.though i have not flown it yet and dont no how they hold up in flight.should not see a problem.

Could someone please measure the spinner on their seafire? I
Wondering if one of the himax contra setups will drop into this model. I just read a great article in Flightpath magazine about the history of this plane. Cheers, A.

Spinner size is 3.75" diameter.

Thanks Peter, geez, that's a big spinner. It's a pity, the Himax motor comes with a 2 and 7/8 inch spinner. So way too small for this bird.

Glad to hear good flight reports from you guys though. Post some more videos if you get the chance!!

I ended up emailing Himax to see if they could do a custom spinner but the answer was no. I will be keeping a close eye on this thread http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1518987 to see what scatsob comes up with!

Can I ask how those electric people are accessing their batteries?

When I spoke to J Perkins (the UK distributor) they told me you had to remove the wing after every flight and it shouldn't be a problem.

I'd like to cut a battery hatch around the canopy but I've never done this before and don't want to ruin the looks.

Any feedback much appreciated.

One more question, has anybody built in any right / downthrust on the motor mount to counter the effects of torque roll?

Most larger models don't need it and it doesn't look like the manual suggests the addition of any so I'm inclined to fix the motor on straight.

Was wondering what existing owners would recommend?

It is already built into the firewall. all you have to do is measure the standoff equally on all 4 points.
